Hi, I'd like to know how the security of the Spanish Royal House works.
I've read that the Prince's house is strongly watched over a team of bodyguards and agents. What else do you know?
Has any member of the SRF ever been in danger or risk?. (like Princess Anne, who was almost kidnapped?)

Thanks in advance.. :)

It is difficult to explain, in Spain they are in the habit of the safety topics going in a careful enough way.

The basic idea would be that they live with many measurements of safety. For example, in these days with what it has happened, it seems that in Baqueira Beret, where the Infantas are noticed enough the increase of the safety. Always they are accompanied of bodyguard, and their movements are controlled enough, especially when it is a question of the Kings and the Princes. They live in the enclosure of the Zarzuela(precisely one of the reasons to construct the house of the Prince there, was to take advantage of the safety services of Zarzuela).

In Spain, besides the problems that can exist in any country, because there is a madman who does threats, or slightly similarly ... the problem of the terrorism exists. While ETA continues existing in Spain the bodyguards will continue having a lot of work. In Spain all the more or less important politicians (in the Basque Country it spreads up to politicians of small villages), judges, enclosed some journalists and teachers of University ... they live with bodyguard. Everything the one that is threatened, has safety, and the list is long.

So with this situation, you can imagine that the members of the Royal Family, live with rigid enough measurements of protection.

On what you ask of if at some time they have been in danger, already they have tried to murder the King in several occasions. Once in Palma, they managed to have it to shot, and did not shoot because they did not have the flight still well prepared. It is not also strange that they give them any frights, since to place a bomb in a place to which in the following days members of the Royal Family are going to come. The last time that they it did was when the Kings and the President of Mexico inagurated a fair of art in Madrid, they inagurated it in the evening and in the morning ETA was making exploit a bomb. Also they did it before the National Day, or interarum in the tracks of ski of Baqueira. In these cases, there are no in the habit of being victims, only the fright and the destructions.

In Mallorca around Marivent, there is so much security. There are police and guards lining the walls of the palace. Then there are policemen across the streets. They are always on the lookout and even if you just walk past the palace gates, (which you have to to get to one of the bus stops), they follow you with their eyes.

On the roofs of many of the buildings around, there are snipers, always with their binoculars. So, I'd say that their security is up to scratch  :flowers:

Thanks for your replies girls :flowers:
I've also read that the Prince's house has snipers all over the place. Is that true?
Thanks

The House of the Princes is inside the enclosure of the Zarzuela, both residences are surrounded by a great extension of mount, and the whole closed and monitored; so in the own building probably the snipers are not necessary. But in the whole enclosure there are forts safety measurements.

The same thing that has commented Sofia, in Palma, happens with the Prizes Prince of Asturias . The hotel where the members of the Royal Family, the winning ones and the guests lodge, they are surrounded with police, streets are closed, accesses are controlled, all the contiguous buildings are crossed ... and also there are snipers.

I imagine that in every act, or in every situation they adopt the safety measurements that they believe necessary.

Really to be a public personage has advantages and incovenientes, live like that must not be easy, especially when there are children.

Yes it is true the Spanish Royal Family always has security with them.
Emeritus Kings Juan Carlos and Sofia, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, as well as Infanta Cristina and Infanta Elena are always safe.
Before the children of Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina also had security, I don't know if they still have.
The Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia also have security.
I don't know if King Juan Carlos's sisters, now just Infanta Margarita, have security.

Videos where we can see the Spanish Royal Family security guards.

We cannot forget the oldest royal escort in Europe: the Royal Guard, which is more than 5 centuries old.
The origin is in the "Montero de Espinosa", from the 11th century, although this guard was not exactly as we know it right now, so we will mention the "Alabardero" from the times of Isabel and Fernando, the Catholic Monarchs. This body was created by Fernando after suffering an attack in Barcelona on December 7, 1492, so we can say that his Royal Guard was created in the times of the Tratámara Dynasty, and, with the changes due to different times, we has reached today

The different units of the Royal Guard are garrisoned in four locations:

-El Rey Barracks, in the El Pardo neighborhood of Madrid
- Barracks La Reina y la Princesa, in the El Pardo neighborhood of Madrid
-Jaime II Barracks, in Palma de Mallorca
-Reina Sofía Music Room, in the Royal Palace of Madrid.

Currently it is made up of around 1600 personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Common Corps, forming a joint unit that combines tradition and modernity.
One of the most specialized military units in solemn escort and protection in the world. To enter this Royal Corps, extraordinary physical qualities and professional qualifications are required.
Functions:
Provide military guard service:

Provide security guard at Palacio de la Zarzuela.
Provide security guard at Marivent Palace when determined.
Provide security and honor guards at the Royal Palace of Madrid, Royal Palace of El Pardo and other palaces and royal sites when determined.
Render honors and give solemn escorts:

Render honors and participate in solemn military parades with a picket, section, company / squad, group or grouping.
Salute the cannon with ordinance salutes.
Participate in the funeral services of members of the royal family, as determined by Royal Decree 684/2010 on Military Honors.3
Give solemn motorized or horseback escorts.
Provide services to foreign heads of state:

Provide the guard of honor at the Royal Palace of El Pardo.
Pay honors.
Give solemn motorized or horseback escorts.
Appoint the technical entourage and provide caravans.
Provide support in healthcare.
Support the House of S. M. the King:

Provide permanent healthcare to the royal family.

Provide various services on a permanent basis and others for specific events.
Provide timely services or supports.
Cover the needs of the Military Room.

This video is very complete and I love it, but I can't find it on YouTube
It is recorded during the reign of Juan Carlos I, but it is worth it.
At first the royal guards talk about what they want above all, to be the escort of the kings, because it is the most emotional thing.

Thank you very much for these videos and information. I didn't know that the oldest royal escort is from Spain.

Absolutely fascinating.
It truly is a small brigade.
I ID'ed cuirassiers, lancers, light infantry, field artillery and halbardiers.

Looking at the gala uniforms are like reading a book about the individual units. The uniforms tell so much.

Did a check. It was the G-36 they are using as the standard assault rifle. - I know very little about it though. I used the G-3 myself, but that's a rifle design from the 1950's.

The Spanish Royal Guard is the oldest in Europe (in the world?), two years older than the Pontifical Switzerland.: flores:

As a curiosity, the royal guards have within their enclosure in the Zarzuela, a nursery for their children. It is in this nursery where Princess Eleanor and Infanta Sofía were, sharing their early years with the children of their own escort guard.

Juan Carlos certainly still has protection paid for by the Spanish state, are they now on a very long holiday with him?

Yes King Juan Carlos has protection paid by the state. He has bodyguards with him in the Emirates.

The Royal House reinforces the security of Felipe VI with two new deployable bulletproof briefcases.

Red dot sights for MP5 submachine guns, tactical vests, ballistic plates, helmets, and up to two briefcases that when deployed form 'bulletproof shields': it is the list of material that the Ministry of the Interior will acquire for the civil guards and national police that they escort the king and members of the Royal Family.

Although I assume that must be true, was it ever officially confirmed?

As a former Head of State I'd assume he'd have some State security arrangement ,wouldn't that be normal?

Would have Leonor bodyguards in the school in England?

Such security would put off a lot of people from marrying a member of a reigning family.

Or reassure some others, given that such a high-profile life is an extreme security risk and it's better to have the protection from people who want to do you harm.

Security like that is trained to operate as camouflaged and discreetly as necessary, not to interfere in a protectee's life.

Although a fictional example, I still think of an instance in the Felipe and Letizia movie — Felipe's security checked out Letizia's apartment for the first time while the two of them sat in the car. Then they came back down, said "Buenas noches", and left them alone. It was almost cute.

The Spanish RF in particular used to be a high-value target for ETA. Things are probably calmer now.

I remember that scene from the Felipe and Letizia movie.
The main members of the Spanish Royal Family always have security with them.
Even Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina are also always accompanied by security guards.
Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia are also always accompanied by security guards.

Strange that these details are published. It only helps potential terrorists by knowing what equipment the security services have.

I don't think it's a problem to know what equipment the Spanish security services have.
The Spanish royal family has a lot of security, well-prepared people who protect them.

I think its odd too, if these details are correct. its only making life easier for terrorists to know what they are up againt
