Pope Benedict XVI Visits Madrid for World Youth Day: August 18-21, 2011

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
World Youth Day in Madrid, Spain, August 16-21, 2011

If you have news or current events of the Royal Family of Spain attending the upcoming World Youth Day in Madrid on August 16-21, 2011, Please kindly share them here. Thanks!

I want to know if some of the Spanish Royals will attend this celebration of the Catholic Church dedicated to the youth of today. Does some of the Spanish Royals be cooperating w/ the activities that are going to be held in this upcoming event?

BTW this is the second time Spain will be celebrating World Youth Day. The last WYD in Spain was celebrated in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, 22 years ago (August 15-20, 1989). The theme for the 2011 WYD in Madrid is: Colossians 2:7 - "Rooted and built up in Jesus Christ, Firm in the Faith"

If you find this thread inappropriate, I do apologize. Admins and Moderators can delete or move this thread if they find so. Thank you very much and God Bless you all! :flowers:

Queen Sofia is perfect, as usual. The Pope seems to feel well, but not the King.

The King may not seem as well as he could, but when I saw his speech yesterday at the welcome ceremony he sounded very animated, and much better that all the speeches I've heard from him in a long time :flowers:

I thought the Queen looked stunning and very well dressed in her grey outfit. The King looked tired but what do you expect, he isn't young anymore and he has gone through a lot. Cant wait for todays pictures with the family.
Thank you for all the pictures and videos so far

First pictures from today at the palace.

Only the King didn't kiss the ring of the Holy Father.

Only the King didn't kiss the ring of the Holy Father.

He didnt have communion after the last mass with the pope in Barcelona, either. Who knows.
Somehow the King comes across as grumpy, especially towards his wife. On one of the videos I think he brushed her arm away when she wanted to help.

He kissed the ring: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/images/2011/0819/279129_1.jpg?ts=1313826881

The "bad manners" of the King was a protocol mistake of his. The Pope is head of state but doesn't review the troops like other heads of state, he just walks. When a head of the state reviews the troops with the king, the queen steps back. He's telling queen Sofía to step back and she knows she's supposed to be there, so she(and he ;) ) are confused.

The Queen knows better the protocol than her husband.

You expect a man man of the king´s age with his physical conditions he´s currently suffering right now to bow down and kiss a ring?!

Queen Sofia was in white because that's the privilege of a catholic Queen.

This goes only for meetings within the Vatican; outside it she, or any other woman catholic or not, could wear any colour she liked to!
Remember last years visit by the pope to Scotland? The Queen didn´t wear black either though she is, as we all know, no catholic!

Right now on TV in Italy (RAI 1) is on air the Prayer Vigil and I've just saw Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia. It's a pity that the weather was bad, with strong wind and rain.
