apparently michelle and her daughters went to have lunch at a popular restaurant in madrid after she met letizia. her daughters were shopping in the morning and joined michelle for lunch.
more info:
http://www.elmundo.es/loc/2016/06/30...54a8b46d1.html
considering they are also girls, i think it reflected poorly on them and on michelle that they didn't support the conference 'let girls learn' with their mum, and that they decided to go shopping instead on a trip paid for by the government. it sounds like what paris hilton would do, not the daughters of the president, and think they should have set a better example.
more anecdotes in the link below:
http://us.hola.com/realeza/casa_espa...acio-zarzuela/
apparently, letizia gifted michelle with 2 bottles, several centuries old, from la Real Fábrica de Cristales de La Granja.
felipe, along with leonor and sofia, came in private to say hi to michelle.

What great photos of Letizia and Michelle. Both ladies look lovely (as do Malia and Sasha). 'Let Girls Learn' is such a great initiative and I'm glad to see Letizia involved.

I thought Letitia's speech was very nice and it was nice hearing her speak English.
The pictures from the palace of the two ladies were really nice. They looked like they have a good friendship but then maybe it's a nice warm welcoming.

I can easily imagine both women forming a friendship above the 'business contact' I cant remember who it was but one first lady told the press that Letizia envied her for going 'back to normal' or a career after a certain amount of time, like Michelle, who will have a pick of many very well paid career options after Obama gives up the presendency, is free to do what she wants while Letizia's position as Queen Consort is for life.

I also like the fact that the US First lady was welcomed at Felipe and Letizia's private residence and not at the main Palacio de Zarzuela.

Yep, they usually use their residence instead of Zarzuela's main building for especially close guests (i.e. W&M or Naruhito), so it's possible that Michelle and Letizia have connected well during their previous meetings and developed sort of a friendship.
Probably friendship between high representatives like them is very different from what we, the ordinary people, understand as friendship, with just some few meetings during a year, but still I guess some bounds can be formed when there is a connection and mutual sympathy. The talking they had seems very natural in the video, with Letizia explaining the advantages or disadvantages of having the main building "one minute by car" and something about the flowers in her garden

Yes I noticed that Letizia was proudly showing the First Lady the floral displays in the garden, perhaps they spoke about gardening when Letizia was at the White House last September.

The lunch at the Royal Palace will be interesting. The leaders of the main 4 political parties are invited (Rajoy from PP, Pedro Sanchez from PSOE, Pablo Iglesias from Unidos Podemos and Albert Rivera from Ciudadanos). Will Señor Iglesias be decently dressed for once, or will he greet Obama in the shirt he uses to meet the King?
(Meanwhile, his partners in the coalition, Izquierda Unida, are organizing protests against POTUS visit...)

so embarrasing that they need to invite mr. iglesias. he never dressed up to meet the king, and i doubt he will dress up to meet obama. what a character! he obviously thinks of himself too highly: he even snubbed an invite to a high profile event not long ago. i am hoping that at least, being the youngest of the lot of the 4 political parties' representatives, he can hold a decent conversation in english with obama.
EDIT: actually, he looks like he can speak english... well, at least that's something going for him!

I think dresscode will be suit & tie, Iglesias could do the smaller offence and leave the tie or the bigger offence and come in jeans, but most likely he will come in suit & tie to annoy the king because he is dressing up for Obama but not for him.

Obama cuts his trip to Spain, to travel to Texas
https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press...d-dallas-texas
On Saturday, the President will depart for Madrid, Spain, where he will spend the night. The President will participate in meetings with his Spanish counterpart and other government officials on Sunday then travel to Rota as previously scheduled to speak to military personnel serving there. The President will return to Washington on Sunday night – one day earlier than planned. The President will no longer travel to Seville.

It seems to me that the royal house of Spain has been doomed with official /state visits for quite a while!

It was clear that Dallas would change everything. The visit to Spain is of no political importance, it's kind of a good bye visit that Obama had promised.
He can't have lunch for fun in Madrid while there are really, really pressing issues of this magnitude in his own country.

Given the news its not that surprising and as said above it was really just a farewell visit by President Obama.

shame about the spanish trip, but i think it was a needed decision to take the president to texas, instead, given the current climate.
i am sure the people from seville - and all the spanish media - are disappointed, it seems to me that the public spain is very into this sort of visit by someone as prominent as the president of the US. However, the change of plans was needed.
i must say the king looks very dashing in that grey suit!

Now they are doing the official meetings with Felipe & Rajoy on Sunday, followed by a visit to Rota naval base (near Cadiz) before Obama has to leave again, coming from the NATO summit in Warsaw.
