I hope you're right, that would be a logical explanation..Although he knows the press are waiting to take weird pictures, he still has to pick up his pen.:p

Another closer look at her jacket from today...

Check out the diamond earrings in shape of a flower (she has a fixation for floral). Also, love the buckles on the shoes.

From Sic / Agência Lusa:

http://sic.sapo.pt/index.php?article...al=3&area_id=2

The king of Spain, Juan Carlos I, paid today homage to the victims of the attacks of 11 March 2004 in Madrid, in the closing ceremony of the Conference on Terrorism and Democracy. The Spanish monarch formulated votes that this conference (which congregates in Madrid, since Tuesday, about 200 specialists of 50 countries) will serve "to eliminate terrorism from the surface of the planet, and to send a clear message to its authors" on the determination of the international community.

"We will never be able to forget the intense suffering of hundreds of families affected" by the attacks perpetrated in Madrid, on the 11th of March of 2004, and which caused the dead to 191 people and wounded 1900 "martyrs of the freedom and democracy", declared Juan Carlos.

In his own and queen Sofia's name, the monarch paid homage to the victims and thanked the accomplishment of this conference, "as a demonstration of solidarity against terrorism", to mark one year on the attacks perpetrated in the Spanish capital.

"Terrorism is a inhuman and unjustifiable phenomenon, totally unacceptable for Democracy and we can yield nor before its threats nor its blackmails", defended the Spanish king. "The free and democratic societies" cannot yield before the terrorist violence, having to join on the fight against this phenomenon and "those who hide or support it", said Juan Carlos I, at the end of the summit.

Anniversary of 11-M 2004

http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2005/0...110524359.html

The Kings will preside over the inauguration of the "Forest of the Absentees" with a floral offering. Accompanying them there will be the Princes of Asturias, the presidents of the Government, Congress and Senate and representatives of the political parties, among them the leader of the opposition, the Madrilenian Mariano Rajoy, and the leaders Aguirre and Gallardón.

There will also be foreign chief executives, like the King of Morocco, who has traveled to Spain specifically for the occasion, aa well as twenty Chiefs of State, Security and of Government, who have attended the International Summit on Democracy and Terrorism, which is being celebrated from day 8th. Among them, there will be the Secretary General of United Nations, Kofi Annan; the president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai; the president of Senegal, Adboulay Wade; the president of Mauritania, Maauiya Uld you go Amhed Taya; the president of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio; the Great Duke of Luxembourg; the High Representative of the UE for the foreign policy and of security, Javier Solana; the president of the European Parliament; and ambassadors of the sixteen countries that lost to some of their citizens in the attacks.

The act, without speeches, will close with the interpretation of "the Cant dels ocells", by Pau Casals, followed by five minutes of silence. A quiet concentration will be repeated, as tribute to the victims, in the Spanish municipalities, by initiative of the FEMP and the Government.

At 8:00 p.m., the homage will be transferred to the Cathedral of the Almudena, where a funeral in memory of the victims will be celebrated by the cardinal archbishop of Madrid, Rouco Varela, with the presence of the Kings, the Princes of Asturias and the head of the Government.

My condolences

Just a quick message to show my condolences for all the families involved in the most important european terrorist attack. As spanish that I am I consider that message should be more present than what royals do because of the anniversary of the tragedy.

agreed, it's such a beautiful gesture, and one that will ensure that the memories of the dead will be carried on for many years to come.

i love the fact that they're olive trees as well, how symbolic.

Yes, it was a very touching ceremony, and the music played was absolutely moving.

They are not only olives, but cypresses, trees that have a whole symbolism related to immortality and resurrection.
