The couple married in Madrid on 16 April 1961 (same date as the princess' parents). The ceremony was in the Atocha cathedral, which was also used for the wedding of the prince of Asturias and Letizia Ortiz (after the main ceremony in the Almudena).

The groom is the 12th marquess of Laula. The couple got 7 children:
