Prince Konstantin-Assen married Maria Garcia de la Rasilla in 1994. Princess Maria was a lovely, lovely bride (rarely talked about). The lovely tiara she wears is the Diamond Ribbon Tiara....

Thank you Julia. Such a lovely bride and a beautiful couple.

Your welcome, Mandy. They really are a beautiful couple, aren't they?

I also really like Princess Maria's bouquet; very fresh!

I think this is not infanta Pilar. This is the queen-mother of Bulgaria. She is the mother of Simeon II. She is an Italian born princess who married the late King Boris III.

Yeah, that appears to be Queen Giovanna of Bulgaria, not Infanta Pilar.

In Bulgaria, we know her as Yoanna. I am not sure if this is the correct spelling.

Can I ask what "Yoanna" means in Bulgarian and why this term is used to refer to Prince Konstantin's wife?

Thanks for the pictures everyone; they are very lovely. Of all the women who have married into the Bulgarian royal family, I think Maria is the most beautiful. She has such beautiful bone structure and such radiant skin. (Miriam is my second favourite.)

I am assuming this wedding took place in Spain. Am I correct?

No, Victoria was talking about the woman in the pictures dressed in purple, who was mistaken for Infanta Pilar of Spain. It's actually Queen Giovanna of Bulgaria, and she was explaining that in Bulgaria HM is known as Queen Yoanna [which, I assume is the Bulgarian way of saying the Italian name Giovanna].

Ah, I see suturegeisha! Thanks for the explanation. I was so confused!

When princess Giovanna married king Boris III of Bulgaria, she became a queen of Bulgaria and she needed a Bulgarian name. I guess, she picked Yoanna, which is closed to her real name.

All sons of Simeon and Margarita got married in Spain. Only Kalina's wedding was in Bulgaria. Kalina has always been attracted to everything Bulgarian.

Thank you very much, Victoria1999 and Suturegeisha for the information regarding Queen Giovanna of Bulgaria. I have acknowledged my mistake and corrected it above.

Hi, pdas! :)
May I?

I came to this thread to post more pictures related to this lovely wedding and I saw that some information was missing. So if you don't mind I'd like to help...

At your first message here are some of the "???"

1. The lady besides King Simeon is Princess Kalina of Bulgaria.
2. Parents and sisters of the bride.
5. again ;) Princess Kalina.

At your second message

2 - Dukes of Soria. Don Carlos Zurita, La Infanta Doña Margarita de Borbón and their sons Maria and Alfonso.
3 - Clotilde de Orleans and Edouard Crepy. (I am trying to find their marriage thread so I can post more pictures)
4 - Simoneta Gomez-Acebo (Juan Carlos' niece) and husband José Miguel Fernández-Sastrón.
6 - Arquiduchess Catalina de Habsburg, Princess Kalina and King Simeon.

Regards.

Why did Queen Sofia leave the church with King Simeon? I gather that King Juan Carlos wasn't there, but why didn't she leave with Prince Felipe as she arrived with him?

Hi, Alexandria.
The "formal" reason I don't know.
Maybe one of our Royal Experts know the official reason :) .
I have always seens that gesture towards the Queen as a courtesy gesture from King Simeon.

Don Juan Carlos had previous engagements so he only attended the party.

The wedding gown was designed by Beatriz Basaldúa.

Glad you enjoy it.

Regards.

Thank you so much for sharing all these wonderful photos, mtbcm! I can see you have many great pics from royal weddings :)

Maria was a truly awesome bride and it's good to see this couple still seem so harmonic and classy a decade after their knot. It's a pleasure to see them together. Thanks again.

You can not even imagine how many pics of weddings I've been saving for years. I am so glad that now, with your permission of course, I can share it with others. :)
Regards.

Thank you for your explanation mtbcm. Another question: If King Simeon escorted Queen Sofia after the church service, whom did Queen Margarita leave the church with?
I look forward to seeing more of your pictures! :) There is so little seen of this lovely couple.

Queen Margarita left the Church by the hand of the father of the bride.

As I saw in some other weddings. The mother of the groom leaves with the father of the bride. And the father of the groom leaves with the mother of the bride. When King and Queen attends the wedding, the godfather leaves the church with the Queen and the godmother with the King. But I'll have to check this...
Thanks for your comments.
Regards.

Maria was a lovely bride indeed! Her delicate figure inspires that serenity all the brides should inspire!
The only thing that strikes me is the large shoulderpaths... they look awkward in a wedding dress!... But then again, if I remember it right, everybody was wearing them in 1994.

How old were the bride and groom when they married? Thanks.

Maria Garcia de la Rasilla y de Gortazar was born on May 13th 1970, while Prince Constantin was born on December 5th 1967. It means that Maria was 24 and Konstantin 26 years old.

The ladies besides Kalina are Ingrid and Caterine Forbes, granddaughter of US Billionaire, Malcom Forbes
