On September 30th former prince Nicholas of ROumania, now Nicholas de Roumanie Medforth Mills, will marry Alina Maria Binder in a religious ceremony.

The couple will get married in Sinaïa, Roumania.

They already married, last year. The couple will just have a second (religious) ceremony.

The interview Nicolae and Alina-Maria gave to Point de Vue is mostly about their religious wedding om 30th September. Alina-Maria tells about her wedding dress, that it's almost ready, except for a few last-minute adjustments. Many elements have been embroidered by hand in the purest Romanian tradition. On the other hand, she did not want a totally traditional outfit. So she chose a designer from Bucharest whose designs she loves, and made some drawings to indicate the style she wanted to give the dress. The designer, in turn, submitted some sketches, which Alina-Maria immediately loved. And her mother, whom she wanted to consult. The general shape will be classic, enhanced with more folkloric details.
Nicolae tells that they still haven't got the answers from crown princess Margareta and Nicolae's mother princess Elena, to their invitations to the wedding. But Nicolae's sister will attend. Alina-Maria tells that the day before the wedding they will get a special blessing that is customary before the wedding. Nicolae tells that in Romania the weddings are traditionally held on Sunday afternoons and that after the church wedding they have a few hours to relax before they welcome their guests to the Casino.

Special measures at Sinaia for the wedding of the year
News about special measures to be taken in Sinaia for the wedding of the year. The casino in Sinaia, the place where the wedding party will be held for the king's grandson, the former Prince Nicolae, is connected with many legends and curses.
"Sinaia is a special city. The street between the Biserica Sfântul Ilie church and the Sinaia Casino, probably two kilometers long, is likely to be closed. The wedding will be held at the Casino, in the mirror room, a famous hall. It's a place of culture. I also received an invitation and I will go with great pleasure, says the Mayor of Sinaia, Vlad Oprea.
"As far as I know, there are not many politicians invited. It is the first wedding that takes place in Sinaia after 70 years. Last time here married Princess Ileana, the daughter of King Ferdinand. So far the names of the godparents are not known".

Hola mentions a press release on the wedding by the Royal House of Romania.
Google translation of the statement:
"....no member of the Romanian royal family or any other royal family will attend the ceremony . A spokesman for the Elisabeta Palace in Bucharest wanted to clarify to HELLO! the reasons for this decision. "Mr. Nicholas Medforth-Mills has no real title and is not a member of the Romanian royal family. Nor is it in the line of succession to the throne. Only Princess Elena is the son of his royal highness and, therefore, nephew of his majesty Margarita, guardian of the Romanian crown, "they point out. " Your marriage is not an official royal marriage, just a private link . The house of his majesty has nothing to do with this ceremony and no member of the Romanian royal family will attend, "they conclude. "

Looks like the Romanian Royals House wished to set the record straight…

Normally family members do attend weddings of children(!), nieces and nephews (and cousins); and that includes those who happen to be royals. For example, several members of the Dutch royal family including his mother princess Christina and his cousins the now king and queen of the Netherlands, showed up for the wedding of non-royal cousin Bernardo Guillermo. The Swedish royals also tend to show up in full force at their non-royal cousin's/nephew's weddings (at least for the Magnuson cousins). So, while they don't need to show up to attend a 'royal wedding', you would hope that at least his mother and other family members would want to attend a family wedding (of their son/nephew/cousin)!

There appears no thaw in the rift between Nicholas and his family.

I share your common sense. It looks like there are other issues here though…. I am not surprised as some of Nicolae's public behaviours, event attendances and statements could be seen as challenging the official Royal Family… :flowers:

So, if the Romanian royal family states that no member attends that begs the question whether his sister is considered a member of the Romanian royal family. She doesn't have a title (so maybe that's what the spokesperson alluded to; that no royal highness or self-proclaimed majesty will attend) but is in the line to the throne according to the current line advocated by the guardian.

There is clear there is a rift in the family; and the rift seems both personal and professional. So, from that point of view I understand that they don't attend but to issue a statement to explain that he isn't a member of the royal family so we as a royal family will not attend implies that a mere commoner who is no longer in line to the defunct throne is not worthy of their attendance at his wedding... being their close blood relative no less.

If I remember well, a Royal Family statement was released at the announcement of the engagement, something along the lines "we are happy for them but this won't change previous decisions taken on Nicolae's status and succession"...

I would consider as option that the Royal Family seek to protect themselves from Nicolae's use of such happy occasions to get back some sort of legitimation.
In addition to that, he has not sorted out the issue of his child, still unrecognised, which the RF gave as main reason for the rift. Is he one of those people who hope that everything is forgotten and forgiven over time and to get away easily with everything they do? If true, not a sign of good ethics to me.

King Michael's grandson, former prince Nicolae, marries Alina Binder on September 30th, the party to be held at the Sinaia Casino. The two of them will leave the church via the way, as it happened decades ago, at the wedding of Princess Ileana, the daughter of King Ferdinand.
All the details were put together for the ceremony. From the church where the religious ceremony will be celebrated to the place where the party will take place, everything was set in the smallest details, the last royal wedding in Sinaia being that of Princess Ileana, the daughter of King Ferdinand and the Queen Maria.
The religious ceremony will take place at the Biserica Sfântul Ilie church, the place of worship founded by Kings Carol II and Mihai I, which is at the entrance to the center of the resort, on the left. The party will be at the famous Sinaia Casino.
Alina and Nicolae will come from the church to the casino in a quaint way, as did Princess Ileana and Archduke Anton of Habsburg at their wedding, the last royal wedding in Sinaia.
- A symbolic thing that Prince Nicolae and Alina wanted to emphasize was that they wanted to make the wedding at Sinaia because Sinaia is the cradle of the Romanian kingdom. It is very important that they will have the religious ceremony at the Biserica Sfântul Ilie, the church of which King Mihai, the grandfather of Prince Nicolae and king Carol II were founders. And, symbolically, the church is at the beginning of Carol I Boulevard, and the Sinaia Casino is at the end of Carol I Boulevard. I think it means very much. The casino is a special, representative building where, besides the games many cultural, social, political events took place. It is also a meeting place, so Prince Nicolae chose this place entirely and very specially. Alina and Nicolae will come from the Church to the Casino. It is interesting. And Princess Ileana came the same way, Vlad Oprea, mayor of Sinaia, told to Mediafax.
The Mayor says he was invited to the wedding and will attend.
- I was invited and I will certainly participate, the mayor said.
Asked if there are special preparations for this wedding where some 300 people are invited, the mayor said that the authorities did not prepare.
- We don't do any special training at all, everything is normal. Many asked me if Prince Nicolae paid for the Casino. Yes, he paid, Oprea said.
The casino in Sinaia, where the party will take place, is in the hands of local authorities, but employees here did not want to tell how much King Mihai's grandson paid of this event, claiming that a confidentiality contract has been signed. However, anyone can rent the Mirror Hall, the place where the party will take place, for the sum of 2,500 euros.

Wow, that's harsh; apparently the conflict is not only about the royal "stuff" but big enough to not even appear in a civil way in eachother's company...

WOW, now that is a family completely divided. For a parent to have this large of a conflict, for what ever reason, it must be huge moral issue. Shame they couldn't correct.

It’s a shame the royal family takes this stance. What do they think will happen to the “Royal Family” after King Michael’s daughters have all passed on?

The huge moral issue is your son having a child resulting from a one-night-stand and not taking responsibility for it.

This thread is about a happy event, Nicolae and Alina-Maria's wedding. Could we keep the other issues outside this thread and discuss about them at the Romanian Forum?

Good he will have his sister with him. Maybe his paternal family too.

It is a rumour and hearsay: "sources say...". Possibly we will see his mother, posibbly we will not see his mother. 50% chance.

Nicolae told about the wedding invitation
"Regarding the invitation, we chose to put in the envelope a manuscript of Queen Maria. I wanted to connect my family to the wedding a little. Alina greatly admires Queen Maria and we wanted to include something small".
Asked if the menu served at the reception includes sarmale, stuffed cabbage rolls, the grandson of King Mihai said that there will be Romanian products.
"What we tried was to have things about Romania. The menu will be related, not all, but some ways with Romanian food", said Nicolae. He said that according to the weather, they will leave the church where the ceremony will take place to the Casino, with a vintage car or carriage.
Mărturia emoționantă a principelui Nicolae înainte de nuntă _ REALITATEA .NET

Prince Nicolae and his wife, Alina Binder, have been in Sinaia for a few days to prepare the latest details of the religious ceremony that will take place in less than two weeks. They said they had no official confirmation of the Royal Family's presence at the wedding, but that "hope dies last". "I hope they will come because it is a moment about family and unity and it is a very unique moment in life. It means a lot to us and we would like to have our families with us next to us", said Prince Nicolae. "Hope dies last", added Alina Binder, who stated that the invitation to the wedding was handed to the Royal Family personally, "not by mail". "I was physically there (at the royal family residence)", added Prince Nicolae. The future brides said that wedding preparations, which have gone up the last hundred meters, "are stressful, but everything is in order and we can not wait". The religious ceremony will take place at the Biserica Sf. Ilie church in Sinaia, at the entrance to the resort, and will be officiated by the parish priest. And in the worship place the preparations are in full swing. The carpets have been changed with new ones, of bright red color, and the furniture has also been replaced, paid by a "lover of the Royal House", said sources close to the church. After the religious ceremony, Sinaia and tourists will have a surprise. Prince Nicolae and his wife will go to the Casino either in a carriage or in a vintage car.
