On May 24, 1888 Prince Heinrich of Prussia married Princess Irene of Hesse and by Rhine in the chapel of the Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin, Germany.
Irene was the daughter of Grand Duke Ludwig IV of Hesse and by Rhine and Princess Alice of Great Britain.
Prince Heinrich was the son of Emperor Frederick III of Germany and Empress Victoria (Princess Victoria of the United Kingdom).

The Princess and her family later settled in Costa Rica following the death of Prince Henry of Prussia in 1929.
Actually it was her second son Sigismund with his Family. The Princess remained at Hemmelmark.

And he died there too and never returned to his native Germany!

Unexpected news during the spring of 1887 compounded the queen's (Victoria's) feelings of lossd of control over her Hessian granndaughters. Without any discussion, Irene, the third Hessian daughter, became engaged to Wilhelm's younger brother, Henry.
Queen Victoria was deeply hurt at Irene's behaviour.

Would it not have made Queen Victoria happy if Princess Irene had mentioned her love of Prince Henry?

Are you asking if she would have opposed the match or if she would have been happier?

Victoria looked on the Hessians as a substitute group of children and she was very involved with them. That Irene got engaged without asking or even discussing it with her probably seemed hurtful, more so after her sister Victoria always kept the queen informed, and Ella chose to marry Sergei over her strenuous opposition.

I don't think she had any objection to Heinrich (also her grandson); she probably would have had the same reaction had Irene decided to marry anyone without consulting her.
