For the wedding of Prince George and Princess May The St. James Gazette welcomed the fact that Prince George was not marrying a foreign princess, which would be bound to 'introduce fresh complications into our relations', but a 'daughter of England'.

Although technically a Princess of Teck, in the Kingdom of Wurttemberg, Victoria Mary was born and raised in the United Kingdom.

Although born and raised in Kensington Palace, Mary and her family were only minor members of the British Family and were only styled Serene Highnesses due to the fact that patrilineally the Teck's are descended from the morganatic marriage of Duke Alexander of Württemberg and Countess Claudine Rhédey von Kis-Rhéde.
