On February 27, 1881 Prince Wilhelm of Prussia married Princess Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein. She was the daughter of Frederick VIII, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg and Princess Adelheid of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.
Wilhelm's grandfather Wilhelm I reigned as Emperor of Germany.

John C. G. Rohl (Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Sussex) has written an award-winning, very detailed 3-volume biography, as well as a one-volume "concise" biography.

Rohl is excellent. However if you fancy something a little less hefty 'Kaiser: War Lord of the Second Reich' by Alan Palmer is also well researched and on Amazon.

Bismarck encouraged the match as a way of ending the Schleswig-Holstein issue

Wilhelm's family objected at first at his choice of Augusta Victoria. They felt that Augusta's father was not a royal in his own right.
