Prince Bernhard, Princess Annette and Family, Current Events Part 2 (August 2008 -)

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I know that Prince Bernhard has been receiving treatments. However, I am a bit started at his appearance at today's Koningsdag festivities. He looks so frail and, obviously, has lost his hair due to his treatments.

Does anything know his prognosis?

He looks thin due his treatments.

I believe the prognosis was that he was 'clean'. So he is now getting his strength back. At Kings day he did not shake hands of people in the audience due to fear for bacterias in stage of his recovery.

Princess Annette and Prince Bernhard participated in the charity sports event Alpe d'HuZes in France yesterday, June 5, to collect money for the research in cancer treatment. Bernhard participated by bike, Annette walked.

At the end of the video there's a lovely scene of Princess Margriet and Prince Bernhard congratulating Princess Annette when she reached the finish line.

Some news about prince Bernhard:

He won the GTA4 car race and became European champion. In the short interview with RTL boulevard he says it is an amazing experience as in May he was barely able to drive.

He also started the organisation Lymph&co to raise money for research for lymphonia cancer. The charity started recently and has attracted much more donations than expected. On the website the prince tells about his battle with the disease (in English):

Thansk iceflower, I missed that interview completely.

Some van Vollenhovens appear more often in evening talk shows, but usually not to talk about their personal life but about (work) projects that they are involved in. In Bernhards case it seems that he was their to promote his non-profit foundation 'LYMPH&co' to raise money for lymphonia research at the Amsterdam Medical Center.

Prince Bernhard talked to NRC Handelsblad about his battle against cancer.

'My world fell apart' he said, 'I knew that giving up was not an option, I wanted to see my children grow up'.

The prince was open and honest to his three children as he did not want to lie to them. He did not promise that he would recover as this was not certain. He does not see himself as a rolemodel: "who survives cancer has the luck that the medicines are working, it is not a matter of energy or willpower'.

Prince Bernhard van Oranje-Nassau, Van Vollenhoven has succesfully bought Zandvoort Race Circuit (picture) indeed and seems to have advanced plans to redevelop it to modern standards and bring the Grand Prix Formule 1 of The Netherlands back on the race calendar.

Prince Bernhard is organising a benefit sports event for the organisation 'Lymph & co' to raise money for research into the fight against lymphonia cancer.

Two weeks ago he expected to raise 200.000 euros, but he raised the stakes, the new estimate is 350.000 euros.

The event will be on March 5th. His mother Princess Margriet raised 4200 euros with her "skating grannies". His brother Floris raised 15.000 euros.

Prince Bernhards name is mentioned in an investigative report of newspaper Het Parool.
The article is about the Amsterdam housing market, and the bad effect of large investors on housing prices, the coherence of the city and various neighborhoods. Normal buyers are priced out of the market while these investors buy-to-let.

One of the 20 people/companies that own 100 properties or more in Amsterdam is Prince Bernhard. The newspaper got the information from the kadaster.

Is it Bernhard as a private person, or is it the company Pinnacle in which he has a firm stake? It is not only "bad for the housing market". As usual the newspaper forgets to bring nuance. At the Haarlemmerweg in Amsterdam there are giant grey DDR-blocks which housed bankers from ING. Bernhard and some partners want to transform these horrible 1960-concrete bunkers into hundreds of luxurious appartments. That is only a plus for the extremely overheated Amsterdam housing market.

Hear hear hear....for once...;)..Parool is way overrated and past it's time and nuance is a dirty word in their circles. To be ignored as they always attack those who are maybe luckyer in one way then most,in this case some people who got at least more then one buck to spend. So be it,the housing market in Amsterdam as always been popular and overheated somehow,no news there,at all,but Parool paints them down as if they were some sort of criminals...which they are not!!

The Parool did not make the information up. They interviewed urban geographer Cody Hochstenbach who did a PhD on the effects of gentrification on (in)equality.

https://www.telegraaf.nl/nieuws/1050583/prins-bernhard-heeft-102-huizen-in-Amsterdam

The prince owns 102 properties. If he is the one reconverting the former ING, he will perhaps also be responsible for building a new apartment building on its parking lot, much to the anger of neighbors and visitors of the Westerpark. I worked in a building attached to the ING tower so I have seen all the petitions of the neighborhood. It seems the license was given -as usual. There must be an enormous amount of corruption in this city(hall).

I remember that not so long ago (10 years?) several property developers were shot dead. But since the crisis the real estate seems less criminal than it was.

Corruption at the Amsterdam City Hall?Oh yes,ask Laurens Ivens about it,it is HIM that pushes building activities where people least want/wish them and oppose...yet he goes on as planned in his SP head and meanwhile lies and BS's everyone during info events...Think the same happened at the place you refer to.

Prince Bernhard as one of the owners of Circuit Zandvoort participated in the presentation of a report made by the research bureau Decisio in Zandvoort on November 10. According to the report there are "no insurmountable organisational, technical or logistical reasons why Formula 1 racing could not return to the Zandvoort race track":

Investigation by the newspaper Het Parool has learned that Bernhard Jr. owns 590 real estates in the Netherlands, of which 349 in Amsterdam. These estates are houses, shops and offices. Only the Dutch investments of Bernhard Jr. have been investigated.

Bernhard Jr. sees these investments as his "pension pot" and the daily management of the estates is executed by commercial estate agencies, so that he remains on a distance.

In the Netherlands only the present King, the future King and the former King (and their spouses) receive an annual donation from the State. So neither Bernhard Jr. nor his mother Princess Margriet have received an income from the State. It is the businessman in Bernhard Jr. which has managed to invest his personal wealth in a quite succesful way.

He is not the only one. The late Prince Friso (spouse of Princess Mabel) was a fellow founder-shareholder of Wizz Air, a succesful East-European low budget company with 130 Airbusses and in other projects (like a commerical medical clinic in Amsterdam etc.). Most likely his widow Princess Mabel and his two daughters are millionaires thanks to papa.

The Dutch love succesful enterpreneurs. Unless it is a Prince. Because of the (wrong) idea that they are doing it "with our taxpayers' money".

Actually this is the best plea to get the personal title "Prince of Orange-Nassau" removed from all the four Van Vollenhovens sons. Bernhard Jr is on such a distance from the King or the Royal House, of which he is no member at all. The only reason HE comes in the press and not other real estate moguls is that he is a "Prince".

I am not sure if it would be very different if it was only a 'cousin of the king'; and not a 'prince'. But indeed, it seems he is scrutinized more because he is related to the royal family. It was very wise to limit the royal house further. I do not think it is fair to remove titles at this point. Nobody has suggested this AFAIK.

The prince -and other large property owners- has been invited for hearings at the city hall. The Socialist Party will ask questions about the issue in parliament, the issue has been discussed in many newspapers and television programs.

Other problems that cause the Amsterdam housing market to be overheated are less explored: too many tourists/Airbnb, too little houses have been built and the fact that 57% of the Amsterdam houses is social housing.

What IMHO is a legitimate issue is that there are some legal issues: renters have to pay 'key-money', which is forbidden by law. And people are living in houses illegally. The prince hired a company to take care of the rents, but in the end he and his business partners are the owners and thus responsible.

Today, January 24, Prince Bernhard and Princess Annette drummed up business for the next edition of the Hollandse 100 (the Dutch 100), the skating and cycling event held to raise money for the foundation 'Lymph&Co', an initiative against lymph node cancer that was founded by Prince Bernhard. The event will take place on March 18, 2018.
