In Edinburgh yesterday, Queen Camilla wore the Thistle brooch previously used by QEQM. Camilla had previously worn the brooch for a trip to the Scottish Assembly in the last year or so.

QC got this earrings as a wedding gift form King Charles. She wears them frequently.

It's a Stick insect brooch, gifted to her by her late father, Major Bruce Shand. Camilla do love insect brooches and has now a pretty extensive collection.

I never knew the brooch was from her father, it definitely gives it some poignancy wearing it today.

When you think about a stick insect the last place you expect to see one is as a brooch of a Queen! However, having worn her three-strand pearl choker with a small round diamond clasp and her everyday pearl drop earrings, I think she thought anything historic or overly ornate would detract from the whole ensemble. Now white gold or platinum diamond studded stick insect broke up the stark severity of her dress without detracting from the pearls.

I am not sure the earrings were a gift from Charles. Has there been much written up about the provenance of these earrings?

It's a regular from Camilla's jewels collection, at least since 2004.

That doesn't come as a surprise, does it? But it's great to see the new Queen to continue the tradition of using her brooches as symbols of the connection with the regions they are visiting.
Has Camilla worn this one before, or is it the first time?

She worn it before. I remember a "girls outing" with the Queen and the then duchess of Cambridge at Fortnum and Mason for exemple .

This Leek brooch has been used on many previous occasions by Camilla.

I must say Queen Camilla looks absolutely flawless - as she has always been since entering the Royal family.

The original Welsh Guards Leek Brooch was designed for Queen Elizabeth II in 1960 using the drawings of the Welsh Guardsmen.
