Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway Jewels

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
The diadem could have been a bit less spacious in design, and halved pearls, hmmm big round dangling pearls would have upgraded it, but I am happy that Princess Ingrid Alexandra has an own diadem.
On the other hand Prince Carl bought the tiara for it's light weight, knowing that his wife didn't like wearing those heavy tiaras all the time. Having a denser design and gigantic round dangling pearls in it would defeat that aim. Imho, those half pearls are so big that they don't look shabby after all.

And I think that the tiara is a very good starter tiara for Ingrid Alexandra. The way it curves around her head was a perfect fit, imo, and the princess look quite comfortable wearing it.

As far as I could see the tiara doesn't even require a velvet band, which would mean it's quite lightweight indeed and Princess Ingeborg would have been very happy (and Prince Carl was a very considerate man!). Or velvet base technology has changed.

As previously mentioned in the birthday thread....for her birthday princess Ingrid got a bracelet in white gold and diamonds that has been worn by Princess Ragnhild, and a ring in white gold and diamonds that Queen Sonja got for her confirmation from her parents Dagny and Karl Haraldsen:
https://billedbladet-prod.imgix.net...op=focalpoint&auto=format&ixlib=imgixjs-3.4.0

This instagram account about the norwegian royal jewels has traced the bracelet to Crown Princess Märtha, so it has been inherited by her daughter Princess Ragnhild as a life time loan, and the returned to the King after her death in 2012.

I must say the norwegian royals has shown great restrain with the use of Princess Ragnhilds many jewels. It has been ten years and this bracelt is the first piece from her jewels to be worn again. The instagram account mentioned above, shows many beautiful jewels that are not worn by the family for many years. It seems Sonja has her favourite pieces for galas, and for daytime and black-tie events she she seems to favour modern jewels. Mette-Marit is no jewellery lover, so I guess that unless Ingrid shows a great love for bling, much will stay in the vault for years to come...

More modern jewels:

From Princess Elisabeth she got earrings from Percossi Papi

and from the duch royals she got gold hoop earrings with smal diamonds.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the late Princess Ragnhild's husband passed away just in march 2021. Maybe that is why many of the returned pieces of jewels have not been worn yet. The palace dit mention to the Norwegian press that an amount of heirloom jewels were given back after the Princess death (they told this after her husband passed away). So maybe we will see more heirlooms on Ingrid and later her mother.

It would be suprising if IA got not one, but two tiaras for her 18th birthday, especially considering that she is still only the heir to the heir apparent, but is strangely celebrated almost as if she were a Crown Princess already.
I see your point however, nobody knows how much longer Mette-Marit will be healthy enough to fulfil her public role as CP, and later as Queen. It seems prudent to ensure that IA is comfortable in the role she will eventually play as CP herself. Either way, they have an attractive and very personable young princess who can perform in the public arena with confidence which, I believe will be a load off Haakon and Mette-Marit's minds.

The gorgeous gift of the late Princess Ragnill and her family for carrying out her wishes is no small thing. It is also no small thing for the King, Queen and Crown Princess couple to allow a gift of such magnitude to be a very public affair. It is also very elegant as a "first tiaras" go, seeming that those are usually presented by the parents and/or the grandparents. For all some say the tiara is of little significance, it is actually of significance to the Royal House itself and the restoration of a piece of its history even if the tiara belongs to Princess Ingrid Alexandra and not 'the Crown'.

IA wearing the newly cleaned and base-enhanced tiara show it to be quite stunning and not at all what other's young royals in her situation are likely to receive. It is the first significant piece of jewellery that belongs to her and not only does she suit it, but she also wears it well. I do not know whether the matching earrings and ring were part of the gift, but if they were, she is far too young to have worn them.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra is wearing her Ruby Heart Pendant in a new picture released for her 19th Birthday today!

If anything ever happens to that thing, they're going to have to get a copy made faster than Queen Maud's tiara. Hopefully it won't.

Is it actually a ruby and not a garnet for her birthstone?

Trond Noren Isaksen writes on instagram that he is writing abook about the tiaras in the Norwegian royal family that will end up with Ingrid Alexandra one day. He tells the history of the royal family’s tiaras and the women who have worn them. It is called Ingrid Alexandras inheritance/heritage. He says he has new information about some of the history of the tiaras. The book will be in norwegian only and published in may this year.

Considering the age of Queen Sonja and princess Astrid, the health of her mother, the status of her aunt as non working member, and that I find it unlikly that Sverre Magnus possible future wife will get a title and represent. Pluss the smart rule that in Norway the monarch owns the major jewels and other borrow, Ingrid Alexandra might one day have quite the historic and varried collection more or less by her self, and as tiara-events gets fewer and fewer, she will need years to get trough them all...

  1. The Emerald tiara
  2. Queen Josephines diamond tiara
  3. Queen Mauds pearl tiara (copy), that can be worn two ways
  4. Queen Mauds big diamond tiara, that could back in the days, also have turqoises on top.
  5. Queen Alexandras Turqouise tiara
  6. Queen Mauds Maltese tiara, that can be worn atleast three different ways
  7. The modern Amethyst set
  8. Princess Ingeborgs Boucheron circle tiara
  9. CP Märthas Vasa diamond tiara
  10. CP Mette-Marits diamond daisy tiara
  11. Queen Mauds vifte tiara
  12. Queen Sonjas modern gold tiara

Then there are also Princess Astrids minor tiaras, but they are rumoured for her children:

  1. Queen Sofias bracelet-tiara
  2. The gold tiara from Pauline of Nassau
  3. Queen Mauds Aigrette tiara, with Mercury wings or ruby antennas

Would have been nice if the NRF had cooperated on the book and let new photos be taken and share their information like in Sweden and Denmark, but that would supprise me alot. Princess Astrid has talked to Isaksen about some of her jewels in the past.

It will be good to see the collection, which over generations had been divided up, come back together for Queen Ingrid.

More from Trond Noren Isaksens book about the Norweigan jewels to be relased in early May.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp-zd-EIQrn/

He writes that the pearl earrings of CP Märtha that Mette-Marit recently debuted, was also part of the gift from the King and Queen to Princess Ingrid Alexandra. He also writes that the history of the earrings are older than what has been known so far which was that it was a wedding gift from Princess Thyra to CP Märtha. More about that in the new book.
https://www.thecourtjeweller.com/20...yal-heirloom-earrings-in-oslo.html#more-43359

The earrings are a perfect fit with the pearl circle tiara. Kind of strange that her mother wore before she did. Her mother was also the first to wear in public the Victoria and Albert bracelet Ingrid got from Princess Astrid though Ingrid wore it in private on her confirmation. IMO that means the King and Queen should share some more jewels with Mette-Marit before her daughter suddenly has a more impressive collection :whistling:

Is it actually a ruby and not a garnet for her birthstone?

It originally belonged to Q Sonja whose birthstone is ruby so I suspect the descriptions are correct

The official gift list for 2022 has now pubished the full extent of the gift from the King and Queen to Ingrid Alexandra on her 18th birthday and who it belonged to previously.

  • A ring - belonged to Queen Sonja
  • A bracelet - belonged to Princess Ragnhild (And CP Märtha before that)
  • A pair of earrings - belonged to CP Märtha (mentioned above and recently worn by Mette-Marit)
  • Necklace - belonged to Queen Maud and Princess Ragnhild (probably a diamond collet necklace, as that is the only necklace I can think of that both are pictured with.

The gifts that we already knew of from the birthday-guests from Belgium, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark are also listed, but not the tiara from the Lorentzen, and not what she got from Princess Astrid and her family or her parents. I am kind of supprised they list so detailed what she got from the King and Queen. Maybe they consider that a state gift. She will own it all one day anyway:)

Princess Ingrid Alexandra is really building up a solid and historic jewel collection :previous:

In his book about the norwegian tiaras, Trond Noren Isaksen writes that the tiara most likely is not from Boucheron, this is in an online se og hør article

The castle also wrote that Prince Carl bought the tiara, which was on display at jeweler Boucheron, for his wife at the World's Fair in 1900. However, Norén Isaksen believes this information is apparently incorrect. He says that Boucheron has an archive, and there is a picture of the five diadems they exhibited at the aforementioned World's Fair. But in this photo, there is no photos og Ingrid Alexandra's tiara.! There are also no orders from Prince Carl in the Boucheron archive, no sales to him have been registered and it was not part of the store inventory at the time. So by all accounts it is not Boucheron who made it, concludes Norén Isaksen.

However, the historian has found an article from the Vecko-Journal in 1929 where it is stated that Princess Ingeborg received the tiara from her husband during a visit to Paris.

Imagine if the court had cooperated on the book:ohmy:

https://www.seher.no/kongelig/nye-opplysninger-om-juvelene/79174154

The article also dates the pearl earrings to Queen Josephine of Norway and Denmark, via queen Louise to princess Thyra who gifted them to Cp Martha for her wedding

Well, either this is another stolen Norwegian tiara  or there's a mystery. Fascinating. Just as long as someone checked those diamonds and pearls are real...!

I'm not sure there was a Josephine of Norway and Denmark. I assume you mean Märtha (and Haakon)'s great-grandmother Queen Josefina of Sweden-Norway?

Yes of course:eek:
Trond also writes in the book that the story of the pearls in Ingrids tiara is also not as it has been belived. Basically he writes that very many myths about the royal jewels has been estblished as facts. And it seems the NRF is contributing by beeing so secretive.

He writes also that the pearl earrings that used to have sapphires are a demi parure with the sapphire brooch now owned by Princess Benediktie

The secretiveness goes right back to 1905 when both Maud and Haakon were pretty wealthy in their own right and Haakon (probably intelligently) decided it was an absolutely terrible idea to advertise that in a poor democratic society. https://webcache.googleusercontent....es-the-folksy-image/&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ca

Maud's own British estate when she died in 1938 was listed at just a fraction of her relatives', which probably means her own then-separated jewelry was not included there, somehow? https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...or-family-wealth-hidden-in-secret-royal-wills

Maybe Ingrid will get more transparent about jewels if she needs to or wants to, but even if Norway is completely different now, you can't blame them for sticking to something that's worked this well for this long.

For Princes Christians bithday Princess Ingrid Alexandra wore the pearl loop tiara she got for her birthday from the Lorentzen family.
The bracelet after Crown Princess Märtha she also got for her birthday from the King and Queen, and for the first time she wore the pearl earrings (that can also hold sapphires) that also was a part of the birthday gift from the King and Queen.

Trond Noren Isaksen tells the history of the earrings here, they are very old and she is the 8th generation to wear them.

The earrings match very well with the peaqrl-circle tiara

She, like her paternal grandmother, suits yellow gold with her coloring, her mother does not, I would like to see her give Sonjas gold tiara a try:)

Yes, I once suggested a yellow gold headpiece for her in the “jewelry suggestions” thread only to be told how ugly and unfashionable yellow gold is… but I think she could really pull some off. Rose and green gold as well.

Closeup of theese earrings, worn again dring Holmenkollen, they feel "very Sonja". Not very typical of a 20 year old, and not for a skiing event ...
close up og gold earrings

Perhaps embracing her surfing side. They could have been a present from the SO?

(Or indeed, Sonja is clearing out a drawer or two and we definitely know IA likes repurposing.)
