Princess Grace Jewellery

Maybe Grace didn't want to wear Charlotte's tiara b/c of feelings toward Charlotte, or vice versa.

The design of the "scroll" Cartier tiara designed for Princess Charlotte looks like interlaced "C"s so maybe it would have been inappropriate for Grace to wear her mother-in-law's tiara of "C"s. If it is not "C"s perhaps Princess Grace just did not want to wear a tiara specifically designed for another princess.

I'm rather interested in the necklace which has an egyption/deco design. The combination of jewels is exciting

Oh, I love that! Looks like some kind of costume party?

If I remember correctly, the photo posted by Warren was taken on the occasion of the centennial celebration of the Casino Monte Carlo building in 1963:
A costume ball indeed, with the style of 1863 (for obvious reasons) as its chosen theme.

I am sure Charlène will wear perfectly the Albert's part jewelry .
If her engagement was known officialy she should have worn a tiara for Victoria's wedding.

Yes I never thought of that!

I cannot wait to see Princess Charlene wearing Princess Grace's pearls and diamonds. In fact, I think that Charlene would suit the pearls and I hope that she has the Societe des Bains Mer necklace changed a bit so that it is more flattering than when Princess Grace wore it. So, I am dying to see what Charlene wears at the wedding in July 2011 because there are so many tiaras from which to choose: one magnificent one in pearls and diamonds from Princess Charlotte as well as Princess Grace's more delicate ones.

It's beautiful. Grace was a stunning woman anyway, she could make anything she wore look splendid!
I was trying to find a credible source regarding her jewels and their current owner(s). Do her daughters share them or do they belong to the principality of Monaco? :flowers:

(Well Charlene won't be wearing this particular tiara at her wedding as the exhibition runs until June! -but reading the article carefully I think the tiara was on loan)

Hmmm. I think that tiara would look gorgeous on Charlene!

I just saw this exhibit the other day and it was spectacular. I recommend to anyone who's interested in jewels period; not just Princess Grace's collection, go see some of the magnificent jewels on display for the exhibition. The exhibit has been extended to July 4th so there's time to see the gorgeous tiara as well as the engagement set given to Grace by Rainier in honor of their wedding several lovely pieces. I must say Prince Albert, Princess Caroline & Princess Stephanie were general in the jewels they've allowed Van Cleef & Arpels to exhibit.

The exhibit also featured some jewels from a few of royal ladies, such as the Dutchess of Windsor etc. It's worth the $15 if you're in the NY area.

I would love to see this exhibit if I can make a trip to NY this summer.

There are some lovely detailed pics of Grace's engagement set & tiara on the Smithsonian site.

The exhibition has been extended to July 4th so unless they withdraw the tiara early (which I guess is a possibility), this will not be the Grimaldi tiara that is worn by Charlene on her wedding day. Elsewhere on the site it is states the tiara is no longer in the Grimaldi collection but is in the ownership of Van Cleef.

What a shame we've seen so little of these amazing tiaras since Princess Grace's passing... I'm hoping Princess Charlene will wear them at some point, but as they now belong to Princess Caroline I don't think that will be the case. I wonder if the tiara that Princess Caroline wore to the ball after the Prince Albert's wedding also belonged to Princess Grace....

I don't see any rubies in that ring. Cartier made the ruby and diamond ring that the Prince initially gave her. The story goes that after a visit to Hollywood, Rainier noticed that all the stars had ginormous engagement rings, so he ordered a second from Cartier.

The tiara Caroline wore was actually a necklace/bracelet worn on a frame. I think it came from Stefano and not Grace.

Most of her tiaras are not impressive. Some of them are boring and nothing special. My favorite one is the Van Cleef & Arples tiara. It is also beautiful as a necklace. Her Small Diamond tiara is also nice.

In the new film, "Mirror Mirror" starring Julia Robers. Grace's Van Cleef & Arpels diamond tiara is worn by "Snow White" as played by Lily Collins.

What a magnificent tiara! All the elements I love to see in its design. If this was Grace's tiara, was it loaned for the movie?

very beautiful tiara :D

You are right. Grace seemed to have conservative tastes in jewelry. Elizabeth Taylor and the Duchess of Windsor are examples of women with extravagant tastes in jewelry. When Grace Kelly was not dressed up as movie star, her clothing was simple but stylish. As a princess, she dressed the part but was not over-the-top. She appeared to be a practical and sensible person and her jewelry, accessories, hats, handbags etc.... reflected her personality.
I have always wondered why she had such simple jewels. She could have had anything that she wanted. Looking at other princesses jewels, the jewels of the Grimaldis paled in comparison. I think that Prince Albert once said that many jewels disappeared during the French Revolution. In any case, Princess Grace did have a few very large diamonds but I would have expected that the princess from such a famous wealthy country would have had different jewels. Even the Van Cleff and Arpels tiara was borrowed.

Afaik, the tiara has always belonged to Van Cleef & Apels. Grace only wore it once, at Caroline's wedding, so it looks like it was a loan back then. VC&A have exhibited it several times over the years, promoting it as a tiara worn by Grace.
