Anything one wants to speculate:
1) a gift/wedding gift and therefore it belongs to the "historic house of Grimaldi"
2) belonged to Princess Grace or Princess Charlotte, now Prince Albert owns it.
3) Prince Albert purchased it himself.
4) that is just the answer that the press office came up with.

It could not mean:
1) Princess Charlene purchased it for herself
2) a suite of jewels on loan from a jeweler
3) borrowed from Princess Caroline or Princess Stephanie

When Prince Rainier married Grace, there were many pictures of their wedding gifts. This is not the custom today for royal marriages so the public does not really know what kind of gifts that Prince Albert and Princess Charlene received.

I remember seeing a photo of a pearl and ruby suite of jewels that Princess Grace received, designed by Cartier. Later, Princess Grace wore a very similar necklace in diamonds and pearls, also designed by Cartier. It seemed as if she exchanged her wedding gift. No one would have know this if there had not been published pictures of her many gifts of jewelry.

It seems as if the press office in Monaco is more discreet. I don't blame them. The press is all over the Grimaldis and their privacy is compromised all the time.

I really would like to know what jeweler designed it. The earrings are stunning.

This is great, beautiful earrings! I'd like to know more about Grace's personal jewels (this isn't the right thread, of course). I was just wondering whether she brought fine jewellery with her from the US, that she owned prior to her marriage. ;)

Lizanne, her sister said that Grace gave some of her jewelry to her sisters before she married Prince Rainier. I wonder if this was a custom back then. My mother and her sisters did the same thing. If one of them had any jewelry from a previous suitor, that piece of jewelry was given away prior to their marriage.

So I have a question, If Albert marries than does he have to buy a new tiara for his wife? Because we all know Caroline inherited her grandmothers tiara's and she sold Princess Grace's old tiara's so it seems like there wouldn't be any tiara's for Albert's wife, or do you think Grace set aside some jewels for Albert if he ever married? I have no idea, does anyone know?

Well, Albert already is married, and he did buy two new tiaras for his wife Charlène. Besides, Caroline didn't sell any of Grace's tiaras. They are often loaned to exhibitions, but it is not clear to the public if they are owned by Albert or Caroline.

I often wondered if Princess Stephanie inherited any of the family jewels, not that the Princess would ever wear them and stop me guessing!!

The fact that Charlotte's jewelry belongs to Caroline is just speculation. Her will is not public and it isn't confirmed by the palace.
I read somewhere here that at the Grace exhibition's Charlotte's Cartier tiara was listed as property of the Prince or the House, but not Caroline.

I'm starting to think that Grace's and Charlotte's jewels don't belong to any of the (grand)children, but to the House of Grimaldi. And that the jewels Albert gives Charlene also belong to the House.
I think that's what the palace statement is about.

Grimaldi tiaras:

The Royal Watcher

My favorites:

1. Cartier Pearl Drop Tiara
2. The Van Cleef & Arpels Tiara
3. Grace's Small Diamond Tiara
4. Fringe Tiara (necklace form only)

The worst:

1. Diamond Foam Tiara
2. Bains de Mer Tiara
3. Ocean Tiara

Antoinette de Merode married Charles III of Monaco. As part of her dowry from her father, Count Werner de Merode, did she not receive a tiara?

Does anyone have any info on where the pearl and diamond necklace/earrings set Rainier gave Grace when the got engaged went to? I've always been fond of that piece of jewelry, I think it's probably one of the most beautiful pieces Grace has worn. Did it go to Caroline? (who I've never seen wear it) or did it go to Albert for his wife? (who I've never seen wear it).

There really must be some amount of forgotten royal jewels in the Grimaldi jewel chest that have not been seen in a long, long time. That set above are beautiful, shame we know so little of what happened to Princess Grace's jewels after her death.

Where did this tiara go? This is the only time I've seen Princess Grace wore it. I would love to see it again.

The jewels belong to Caroline as the eldest daughter and she was worn many of them for years. Whether she would consider them her personal property, rather than items that return to the Sovereign House is another matter altogether.

My guess is she would ensure they remain with the House.

As Princess of Monaco, shouldnt the jewels have been passed on to Charlene? Perhaps the whole I dont wear jewelry thing is a statement to Caroline who has not handed them over?

HRHAmy it is a diamond emerald tiara. Princess Grace wore it several times, f.ex. at infanta Pilar prewedding gala or at official photoshot when she was older in a purple gown and emerlad flower brooch. Todays it probably stays with Pss Caroline - with the rest of Grace collection.

This tiara is composed entirely of diamonds! If you google "Princess Grace at Infanta Pilar's wedding" you will see photographs of Princess Grace at the event.

Quite right, at Infanta Pilars wedding Princess Grace wore her small diamond tiara with the 5 little arches. It must have been her favourite, I don’t think there was another tiara which the Princess wore nearly as often.

But on the pic which HRHAmy posted above, Princess Grace wears a different tiara with three arches. There’s a large arch in the middle and two smaller arches at the sides. I have only seen this tiara at this particular photo shoot. There are also other shots from it floating around the net, with the Princess in profile, or looking aside. I don’t know if there are emeralds in it, but there is no proof that it ever belonged to Princess Grace. She obviously didn’t mind loaning jewels, and did see a couple of times.

Besides, it is not known how inherited Princess Grace’s jewellery. It is continuously repeated that Caroline did, but there is no hard source for this rumour. It is just repeated so often that many people see it as a fact.

Tilia C. you are right. It was my mistake - I'm terribly sorry. Grace wore it to Constantine and Anne Marie wedding with coral gala dress (I saw some colour pictures where it was quite well seen but I don't remember where). There are small emerald elements in the lower part.

Thank you for all the info!:flowers:
It's a shame, I think this tiara looked fabulous on her so even if she was loaned this particular piece I would've liked to see her in it more than once.

Don’t worry, mistakes happen to all of us.:flowers:
Are you sure about the wedding in Greece? I have only seen a small black and white photograph of Princess Grace at the pre-wedding ball. It seemed that she didn’t wear a tiara at all. But there was another pre-wedding event of which there are only few pictures out and about. I haven’t seen one of Grace at this other event at the Hotel Grand Bretagne in Athens. Actually, I would be careful with old colour pictures. Many of them are actually black and white photographs, which have been coloured lately (namely after the invention of photoshop). So it’s often difficult to say if the colour is original or not.
Thank you for all the info!

Yes, she looked beautiful in this picture, but a bit too cold and remote for my taste. At least we get a good view of the jewellery, since it is a studio picture in excellent quality.

Now this is a true family jewel, worn by 3 generations.

Sad we did not see Princess Grace wearing this tiara for such a lot of official Events she attended. Princess Charlotte gave her jewels directly to Princess Caroline and will remain in her family.
2 great jewels although exit the Hanovre jewels !

Its always a nice treat to see the Grimaldi jewels out,its rare we get to see them and I think Princess Charlotte's Fringe looked stunning on Tatiana Santo Domingo.

She is a stunning winter bride and I just love to see a Grimaldi tiara being worn again, no matter what the occasion.
