Perfect for this occasion. It works well with the outfit and of course the striking hat.

At the State Opening of Parliament today, I noticed Camilla had on a bar brooch to secure her GVCO. Had anybody seen this brooch previously?

I guess she could use her collet necklace...... and then get accused of trying to out jewel the Queen

For those of you that do not know what the claddagh symbolizes, my avatar is a picture of the claddagh ring my mother bought for me in Galway. The heart symbolizes love, the hands symbolize friendship and the crown symbolizes loyalty.

I am embarrassed to admit I knew the symbol from Buffy the Vampire slayer. Yeah I know, so cool of me
I actually learned about symbolism and ancient cultures from television. Expanded on it in college. But my mother is embarrassed when I say the inspiration for my bachelors degree is Saturday television and my Grandma's stories (she had all these great family tales from England).
Happy she wore the brooch. Think her shamrock jewelry may have been too much on this occasion (too themey).

That's where I first learned of it too. I love that show.

I think symbolism is part and parcel of royal dressing, so I think it would have been odd for her to not wear her shamrock brooch. Quite like I think it is unthinkable that the Queen would go to Canada and not use her maple brooch, or not use the Wattle in Australia or the Fern in NZ.

That's a beautiful brooch and I have a soft spot for that color!

I like it. Not one of my favorite brooches by far of hers, but considering it was a gift from Ireland to her, it was fitting she wear it on the trip.

What a beautiful dress, so muy española with these plissé layers and the colours advancing from white to yellow. Fabulous! And so befitting Granada.
Picture: Juan Carlos de Borbón escorts Camilla de Cornualles. Click on the pic to XXL and see the detailing. Note the Duchess' earrings: Alhambra motivs! Granada!
See Van Cleef & Arpels http://www.vancleefarpels.com/eu/en/.../alhambra.html
The motive is popular by royals. Princess Charlène spotted with a necklace ( picture) and Queen Máxima even is spotted with two of these arch-expensive necklaces ( picture). Also the late Princess Gracia: ( picture).

I like them better on Camillia, the jewels sported by Charlene looked way too "teensy"...
