Princess Marie of Greece and Denmark, the wife of Grand Duke George Mikhailovich, was outside Russia when the war broke and spent it in Great Britain and never saw her husband again. He, like many of the Romanovs, was killed during the Revolution. While I cannot say for certain that the Grand Duchess George met Empress Marie in Calais, I see no reason why GD George could not have because: 1. she was outside Russian when war was declared; 2) Marie was also outside Russia at the same time; and 3) Great Britain and France were allies, therefore people could travel between the two countries.
