Her tragedy surpassed the imagination of ancient Greek playwrights. Carol's vindictive decision to separate the young boy from his mother and her from Michael was abominable. I guess, the emotional repercussions of all that can be easily recognized in the shyness and retiring behavior of King Michael who, despite a happy marriage, seems to having never overcome the devastation caused to him by this separation during childhood.
The only moral vindication for Helen was that eventually the Romanian State elevated her constitutional position to Queen Mother and her style to Majesty.
