I believe Queen Fredericka was hated due to her German heritage and her forceful personality. It help cost her son Constantine the crown of Greece, but then again, Greece was never a stable monarchial country. Fredericka's daughter became Queen of Spain, the present Queen Sofia.

I don't think Fredericka was a Nazi just because she was German. I am of German descent and I am sure as heck NOT A NAZI!!! My German grandfather fought for the United States in World War II and landed on the beach at Normandy on DDay. He received the Fleur de Lys from the French Government. He also helped liberate Auschwitz. A German man did all of that and he was my Grandfather and I loved him very much!!

I am constantly telling people that many, many Germans were not Nazis. It is a falsehood that created hatred to all Germans. Many Germans in Germany hid and helped Jews (as well as Polish) to escape persecution. This would be a wonderful world when we as the Human Race stop persecuting people because of their color and or nationality.

She died while having opthalmic surgery. I think she had a heart attack. Too sad for her family, age 64 is fairly young.

And I also heard she lived in Egypt, but why and when??

She and her older 2 children (Sofia and Constantine) fled Greece during the Nazi invasion. Later, they moved on to South Africa, where Princess Irene was born.

In many of Queen Frederica's photos, one finds her smiling or in a jovial mood. She must have been a happy character. She must have also been immensely generous, especially after reading about the thousands of orphaned and poor children she helped during the Greek Civil War and how, together with the King, worked tirelessly for Greece.

Frederica was popular in Greece until the 60s. She had a german air of pomp and ceromony which used to upset a few people. Elini Vlachou the editior of an Athinian news paper was told once she was comming to visit the office and expected everyone to kiss her hand... however when she arrived she was as relaxed and informal and made everyone feel easy... perhaps she used to make people expect a stiff cold person so they were then blown off their feet when they met her.

She became really unpopular however when her son became King beacuse she obviously had alot more experience and was seen as beeing influencial on his choices and decissions. However alot of this had to do with the rumour mungering that went on around the pro-socialist government that wanted to discredit the monarchy. After the fall of the Junta the republicans put up posters of her on bill boards with the caption "i am comming" to scare people off voting for a monarchy. She knew she was unpopular (although i do beleive unfairly) by this time and she distanced herself from Constantine and went off traveling on her own and spent time in India... however people still picked up on this and made it out she had given up greek orthadoxy and gone all indian on them. Poor woman couldnt do anything right.

My ex's grandmother didnt like her beacuse she beleived she stole alot of money from the Greek orphanage fund for her self and she was a monarchist... however i always argued over that beacuse she hardley seemed to benefit from the money and as it was supposed to have happened when she was in exil it would have made things difficult... was more republican lies.

I read that she suffered a heart attac after a plastic surgery. Hers parents were on vacation and she didn,t go this them because the plastic surgery was a secret and she stay in Madrid with Dr. Carlos Zurita a Infanta Dona Margarita,s husband. This was a terrible notice to her family that has left her in very good condition two or three days ago.

I have to say, there are reasons to have "cosmetic" or "plastic" surgery apart from vanity. I had a plastic surgeon do the surgery on my carpal tunnel problem but you could say I had plastic surgery because of the type of physician performing it.

My guess is, that the Queen had a problem with drooping eyelids, which older people get. Drooping eyelids may cause irritation or sores on the eyes, so there's reasons to have the surgery apart from vanity.

And is wanting to look good a crime (unless you turn yourself into Michael Jackson or the Cat Woman)?

I read many years ago that:
Queen Federica died of a heart stop.
She was to have intervened in the eyes. Some persons have a "bags of fat" below of the eyes, it are very unsightly, for example King Constantine, he have this bags in the eyes and he has the very eyes closed by it.
This was a very simple intervention, for it was used to anesthesia local, it sleep just the part that is going to be intervened (as in the dentist).
But some people have problems with allergies and heart and they do not know it because they haven´t made the necessary medical tests. The anesthesia is very dangerous for these people.
The Queen Federica didn´t know that she had problems of heart, the medical hadn´t made this test and she, died... by a simple intervention ....

Somebody asked here about the first Agamenon cruise, which was organized by Queen Frederika and had the prime purpose of reuniting many royals so they would get to know each other better. Spécially the young unmarried princes and princesses, who could maybe find their future partners.
As this was in the 50s, it was in a time when royalty had to marry within its ranks. I still can remember several interesting photos and one in particular which showed the whole group.

The jewels of Queen Federica have not been sold. They were inherited by Queen Sofia and princess Irene. Except the jewels that the Queen Federica brings to the jewels house Royal of Greece, I have seen Alexia with a diadem of Queen Federica, and Queen Sofia all their crowns and jewels are of her mother.
The Queen Ana Maria has leads besides the jewels from the Royal House of Zar, a set of pearls that was very beutiful of the Royal family Alemana.But the inmense most of the inherited jewels Queen Sofia and Princess Irene .

When the Queen Federica inherited from her mother, She was faced by the estate with her brother, the father of Ernesto of Hannover, the Queen Federica and his other brother had no friendship with the father of Ernesto. I remember that they(Queen Federica and other brother) demanded to the father Ernesto to restoration the estate, where was the part of the jewels of the Queen Federica, in the end everything will be solutions, but Queen Federica had not relation with her brother.
Ernesto of Hanover and her brother recovered the relations with her greek primes.
