The King of Spain,The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Henrik of Denmark, Princess Sophie of Greece and Hanover and Prince George William of Hanover (her brother), Lady Katherine Brandram and Princess Eugenie of Greece were all present.
 
On 6 March 1964 King Pavlos died and some days later on 12 March became his funeral

 
Prince Michel de Grece wrote a new book : "avec ou sans couronne".
The State Visit of General de Gaulle to Greece was interesting in all its funny details.

very sad indeed! Must have been done by very godless persons....:sad: But it will be erected again!
 
No RESPECT from the DEATH shows no RESPECT of the LIVING. One day they will be asked why? Judgment day comes for everyone.
 
Almost nothing justifies vandalizing a grave, and it might just be vandalism with no motive, but I've heard it said, "if you want to start a fight in any taverna, propose a toast to Queen Frederika's memory".

How much of the controversy around her might be still be causing problems today?
 
Terrible act of wanton vandalism to attack a burial site,wonder why were King Paul and Queen Frederica's graves singled out?
 
I regularly visit the Tatoi cemetery, since many years ago. Vandal acts are common throughout the estate. It is common for them to paint the tombs of red colour, with the hammer and sickle symbol and other communist symbols, even I have seen barbecue remnants in the cemetery, 10 years ago. But for me this is very rare, because it is unusual that they attack only an element of the cemetery, and more rare, they have not painted the tombs and they have not broken the tombstone, only the cross.
These attacks are made by groups of young people, who call themselves communists or anarchists, they have fun doing these attacks on weekends.

Yes, it's very strange that they attacked only king Paul and Queen Frederika's grave. I hope the damage will be repaired quickly.
King Constantine, Queen Sofia and Princess Irene must have been very sad about what happened.
 
I do not believe that this was an act of vandalism. This has been intentional, and even, I would say that they have broken it the same morning, after the wedding announcement was known, in order to divert the attention of the foreign media.
why for me it is not a vandalism:
- Whenever there have been vandal acts, they have not broken a specific element, they have destroyed everything they have found, never against an object.
- They have not painted the tombstone, with the hammer and sickle, perhaps because it had to be done quickly, they did not have time to stay to paint it.

- They have chosen from the tombs curiously the one that is more difficult to locate.

- They have brought tools to do it, because that cross can only be broken with a good hammer.

- They have gone directly against the cross, the rest has been irrelevant to them.

- They have gone directly against the cross, the rest has been irrelevant to them.The cross is the most striking thing in the tomb.When the tombstone and the cross have been painted red, nobody has given importance to it, but the cross, yes is relevant, they , who have attacked the tomb, do it at the moment when there is an important announcement of the royal family.

For me, this is not the way of proceeding of those who habitually carry out these vandal acts, they always attack, not a tomb in the cemetery, all the tombs in the cemetery, I do not see any headstone painted red, it is clean. Whoever attacked the tombs of King Paul and Queen Frederika, in my opinion, had a straightforward objective, and they knew what they were looking for divert attention, they seek their moment of prominence

Utterly disgraceful has it made the news in Greece or is there indifference?

The king and his sisters and extended family must be very saddened.
 
All properties were to be returned to the Royal Family. Even because it was the Royal Family that built or bought them. The Greek Republic has no right to keep them. This should happen to all exiled royal families.
The Tatoi Palace has been abandoned for decades. The government never did anything to restore the palace. The palace was to be returned to King Constantine II, it was the fairest thing that should happen.
 
Some newspapers talk about it but it is not relevant news. The cemetery has been abandoned for many years, and has been the victim of constant attacks on graves, without the authorities doing anything to pursue those responsible, this has been total passivity.
For the royal family, these attacks on the graves of their ancestors, they will be sad, but I think they are used to seeing it. It is not a suprise to them.
I have said that those who have attacked the graves, they are not anarchists, they have broken the cross seeking to be protagonists in the media, and now I was reading a newspaper and I can see that they have achieved what they wanted,

The graves have been victims of constant attacks but only this one is of interest, curiously the day that Philippos announces his wedding.
If Prince Philippos did not announce their wedding, they would not have broken the cross, or if they would have broken the cross,the press,had no spoke about it.The cemetery would still be the victim of attacks but no one would have talked about it. It's obvious, because they have done this.
If Philippos would have announced his wedding in october,they would have broke the cross in october.
The attack did not come from the anarchists.

If they would have a problem with King Constantine,
they would scrape his car, they wouldn't break the grave cross.
They just want the media to divert attention to Tatoi's property.:whistling::whistling::whistling:

The sad truth- this was a royal family that was never deeply embraced by the majority of Greeks. I think of the Greek royals as a failed transplant: Some roots grew and indeed took hold for a while, but they were neither strong nor enduring. To me, Frederike's negative impact on the wobbly Greek monarchy was as catastrophic as that of Alexandra Feodorovna on the wobbly Russian monarchy.

An excellent study on the subject: “Greece and the English: British Diplomacy and the Kings of Greece” (International Library of Historical Studies) by Panagiotis Dimitrakis; Tauris Academic Studies (2009).

I know the family (especially Frederika) is disliked by enough Greeks that the monarchy is gone, and made many mistakes along the way. I just wondered if the vandalism was meant to be a personal attack or simply done for attention. Anyone know if they've fixed it yet?

What exactly did queen Frederica meddle with in regards to matters of state that caused so much disdain?

Was her German roots the main factor too?
