Lovely pics thanks.
Nevertheless some if the dates are not correct.
Engagement took place January 1963 and not March 1964. They were asked to wait for the marriage to AM was 18 but they were 1.5 y engaged.
King Paul died March 1964, so after this date Kostantine Is King and not CP anymore. So some captions are wrong.

"On Dhekelia , Attica a wider area, which includes and the area of today's Tatoi is the Tomb of Sophocles the Tragic Poet.

In 1958-59, Princesses Sofiia and Eirini, under the guidance of archaeologist Theofanos Arvanitopoulou, conducting systematic excavations in this forgotten archaeological site, managed to collect the scattered ancient finds.

Ιn this area there is a sign with the timeline of the excavation of the mound. Although it is worn by time and slightly rusty, its text remains legible: "It was excavated in 1958 by the then Greek princesses Sofia and Eirini and their archeological teacher Theofano Arvanitopoulou. It is a large family burial precinct, of classical times, enclosed by an artificial mound. The tomb was originally 13 m high. It contained four marble sarcophagi with a gable cover, three in the center and one further south ".

Seeing this it seems there's a striking resemblance between Irene and her great-niece Infanta Sofia.

Thanks, eya, but that link goes to a sound recording.

Prinsara I hope you finally managed to see the video!

An old video this time with Princess Eirini

Scenes of a dinner dance at the White House in Washington, in honor of Princess Eirini, who attended with the President's daughter Lynda Bird Johnson on 17 February 1967

You are right, never thought about. Indeed, especially in the mouth arr.
I hope it will change through the age, as Princess Irini, has never been pretty, in the opposite queen Sofia was very beautiful.

Apparently I'm not the only who sees it, at least in the Family Resemblances thread, and some other internet comments on young Irene pictures.

Irene had a very bright and beautiful (and instantly identifiable) smile when she was younger, and nice eyes. I actually prefer her slightly idiosyncratic looks to her sister. (Sofia was nice-looking, but I'm not a fan of the Frederika features.)

Infanta Sofia will undoubtedly get more of a chance to shine than Princess Irene, so I'm sure she will do just fine. Considering Irene has never had a family, it seems nice and sweet that this resemblance popped up.

Agree, and since Pcs Irini leaves permanently in Spain, she will have many opportunities to see infanta Sofia growing and will be happy for the ressemblance.
As for Queen Sofia, I don't see the Frederica treats on her, when she was young she had a delicate pretty doll face, bit I don't see it coming from her mother.

It´s always in the eye of the beholder. From my point of view, Frederika was prettier than both of her daughters. Queen Sofia "very beautiful"..? Well, how then would you call women like Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Margaret, Princess Grace or Queen Anne.Marie?! I think Sofia looked very nice, but that´s that.

The best looking child of King Paul and Queen Frederika by far was their son Constantine, anyway.

Of course, we are talking about personal opinions and perceptions.
Yes I correct my word, Queen Sofia as a young lady was simply beautiful, if you compare her with the names you mentioned, agree she is far behind. But still a pretty girl. And aged well.
Princess Irini was never pretty, and did not age well thought.
As for King Konstantin, he was handsome only in his young ages, when he was CP and then ruling King, maybe the aura of the uniforms helped. But since his 30s he stopped being so handsome and aged very badly, and I'm not talking only for now with his health issues.
And if you go to the next generation, among the 8 grandchildren of Paul and Federica, you have Felipe very handsome and of course Nikolaos. I saw him closely many times and I can tell you he is more than gorgeous and aging well (opposite to his father)
Of couse all this is my personal opinion.

Queen Frederika leaves Claridges Hotel with her daughter Princess Irene on April 29, 1963

The famous trip to London. At this moment relationship with UK were very cold because of the Cyprus matter but also because of English political manifestants which were every day out of the hotel shouting.
She went out shopping with her daughter and a completely reduced security. She has been shouted by the public in the street as Mr Abatiellos an English citizen married with a Greek communist at these times in prison was organizing riots against the queen of Greece. When they saw her going out almost unprotected, Mrs Abatielos ran behind her and attacked her physically.
The Queen was left alone as in the crowd she lost both her daughter and the only security guard she had. She ran and in order to escape knocked the door of a mansion in Belgravia, begging "I'm the queen of Greece please help me" (You have to be a British upper class to keep your calm in such an event....)
Enormous scandal happened, the press reproduced the event. It is said that this provoked the rixe of Karamanlis with the Palace and his escape from Greece.
The rest is history

Somewhere on the multitudinous pages of these forums, there is a link to a wedding video of Pavlos and Marie-Chantal. In it, the King was being very much the co-host, springing up to greet guests, and to step outside to survey the weather, smiling broadly, chatting to those assembled. I couldn’t say whether he was handsome, but he was devastatingly attractive, and very……sexy. I’d watch it again!

And it was debated in the House of Commons regarding these incidents during a private visit to London by the Greek Queen.
