Anne-Marie continues having the same wonderful, disarming smile, exactly as when she was 18.

I just watched on youtube "Constantine -a Kings story" - and I have to confess, I was touched.
He made some decisions which turned out to be not successful. I am not judging if they might be wrong or right - nobody should. That's life and things happening- but they seem to be very open people. I liked the documentation.

King Constantine has a Danish passport, it becomes to him in a European citizen and can travel throughout the European union, for Greece too. His surname is not GÚbsburg, he has a surname in his passport and this is not GlÚbsburg. http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums...y-3705-17.html

This is a link to a video showing the King and Queen walking in Athens earlier today. They happened to be at Syntagma Square where the lorry-drivers/owners were protesting in front of the Parliament. One of them asked Constantine if he would be kind enough to speak to his mother over the phone, which the King did. Imagine the old lady's surprise!!!
This is the link to the video (in Greek of course)

....And he had no bodyguard and continued his way. The Greeks are tired of our politicians, they are always the same, the country has problems in the economics and they only care about the election campaigns

In front of God and all men, I declare that this video-clip was rehearsed. A miniscule crowd is seen and heard shouting, "Εσένα θέλουμε, εσένα θέλουμε, εσένα θέλουμε", that is, "We want you, we want you, we want you", exactly three times and, then, someone is heard telling the spontaneous crowd, "Πάμε, 'Εσένα θέλουμε', πάλι", that is, "Let shout 'We want you', again" !!!!!
By the way, the lorry owners were protesting in front of the Parliament against the government's decision to finally implement European Union directive and pass long and direly-needed legislation to open closed shop professions. Constantine and Anne-Marie who were [as always] staying at the Grande Bretagne Hotel, located obliquely opposite the Parliament, across Queen Amalia Avenue, happened to be walking not past but through the protesting crowd.
The interesting instantanέ, as you can all ascertain for, and by, yourselves, reveals four or five people approaching the royal couple with one of them asking the king to talk to his mother on his cell phone. What a nice spontanenous event.
Spontaneity is de rigueur and of the essence, isn't it!

Well, it is one thing presenting a piece of news and an entirely other thing trying to interpret it .
Let me tell you my facts:
I first saw the video in the 8 o'clock news bulletin, on Alter Channel last night. (Those who know the Greek reality also know that it is a rather pro-socialist channel, so we cannot accuse them of "promoting" Constantine, can we?)
As to the size of the crowd or the sponteinity of their actions, I can only say that I cannot know how many they were. (Who can be certain about that, without having actually been there?)
Now what I think happened when the man said
Quote:
"Let shout 'We want you', again"
|
is that he just took the chance to repeat the slogan in front of a camera (it was the lorry-drivers' protest, remember?)
When the TV reporter asked one of these men why they would rather have the King back, he answered : "It isn't Constantine who deprived us of our properties, it's the politicians!!!"
Anyway, anyone looking at the expression of Constantine and Anne-Marie (anyone unprejudiced, that is) can easily realize that they certainly didn't expect it, they were smiling politely, of course, but rather awkwardly ...
For those who know Greek I'll put here some links to the sites where I found the news last night (none of them pro-monarchy, mind you)

My point is that the news was just what you saw, an incident that took place in the middle of a protest in the centre of Athens, nothing more, nothing less. In fact, here in Greece, no one took it for something "rehearsed" , not even those who hate the sight of him!!!

Some more amusing piece of news (...) King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie had been to Belgrade prior to the Athens incident, taking part in the celebration for the 25th anniversary of Prince Alexandre and Princess Katherine of Serbia.

King Costantin is an uncle for Prince Alexander, as King Costantin is first cousin for Pcs (or Queen??) Alexandra, mother of Prince Alexander.

Is it just me or something happened to queen Anne Marie? At the Belgrad anniversary she looks much older than usually.
