"Today, Grand Duke Jean would have been 100 years old. In memory of his late father, Grand Duke Henri shares a message for this symbolic day for him and all his family.
"“On this day of the 100th anniversary of the birth of my father, the Grand Duke Jean, I would like with the Grand Duchess, my brothers and my sisters, and all our family, to have a moving thought for the one who has left us almost two years ago. I think I can associate the whole population with the feeling of affection we have in our hearts for the one who has given us so much throughout our lives ""

Presumably this is the very way Grand Duke Jean lives on in the memories of his son!

Prince Felix also remembers Grand Duke Jean via the Chateau les Cristea's Instagram page.
Quote:
Today is a very special day for our family because my grandfather Grand Duke John would have turned 100 today. I join my father Grand Duke Henri with a very special thought for this great man of state who touched us all very much. Not only as a father and grandfather but as a protector of the people of Luxembourg and who was also highly respected internationally for his kindness and determination to serve his country. It will forever be etched in our hearts.

“d’Aviano”? Is that a Lux tradition?

It’s the name of a friar and the family is very Catholic so it’s possible that many if not most of the men in the family have that name, plus some of them are descendants of the Habsburgs so the tradition is within both families.

Not really. The use of Guillaume/Wilhelmine is a Luxembourgian tradition but the use of 'Marc d'Aviano' is indeed a Habsbourgian tradition that was also used in a few cases by the Luxembourgian Grand Ducal family; GD Jean being the first (followed by all sons of prince Jean and the youngest son of prince Guillaume who was born a year after Marco d'Aviano's beautification). Luxarazzi has a helpful overview.

Great Speeches , but the Grand Duke implicate himself in WW2 . His Country suffered a lot during this War and his Mother Grand Duchess Charlotte was one the the greatest Head of State at that time.

Quite an honour that the American president would taker time of his schedule for a state visit of such a small country. We have not seen much of these anymore these last years. Was the 2015 visit of the king and queen of Spain the last visit of a European monarch to an American president? The last state dinner in honour for a royal must be even longer ago.
