I guess Vasaborg refers to Carl Lowenhielm, the natural son of the King and his mistress Augusta Lowenhielm, nèe von Fersen. I don't know if he had any children.

Charles XIII

Thanks for the information MAfan, thats who i was looking for information about.

From the information I have found, Carl never got married, and didn't have any children.

Thank you for that information, sorry for taking so long to acknowledge it.

Really good work to list all the Swedish monarcs! Tanx!

But... hmmmm.... I find it v annoying to read about "Charles XII" and so on because we never had a king named "Charles"... the name was Karl...
just an example... and to follow that we need to write "Charles XVI Gustaf" when we are talking about the current king...(and in TRF we use Carl XVI Gustaf)
So I think it would be better to put the swedish names first (because that was their names) and then add the english "translation" or transscription ...:whistling:

But its probably just me.... and I get the piont in putting english first.... but still... they was swedish:);)

Prince Frederick Adolf

Did Sophia Frederica the natural daughter of Prince Frederick Adolf (son of King Adolf Frederick) have any children?.

Why Does the Current King Have his Numeral in the Middle of his name?

The current King of Sweden descended first King of Sweden?

The current King of Sweden descended first King of Sweden?

I don't think so as King Carl Gustaf belongs to the House of Bernadotte, which is of French origins and has no Swedish connection IIRC. Also Sweden has been ruled by two different houses before that; the Houses of Vasa and Holstein-Glottorp. :flowers: Then again, Britain has been ruled by a number of houses and apparently HM is somehow related to all of them, but I think that's a different story. I could be wrong though as I'm far from an expert on this subject and this post was all written from memory.

Yes he is, when Josephine of Leuchtenberg and Victoria of Baden married in to the royal family family they brought Vasa blood with them, in fact they were each called the Vasa Princess at court

Thanks for the information - I overlooked Josephine and Victoria when posting! :)

King Gustav III founded some of Sweden's national cultural institutions.
These include the Royal Opera House, the Royal Theatre of Drama and the Swedish Academy.

Hm, I managed to miss this thread until now. I guess I'll make a list of all the consorts from the last four dynasties.

The Vasa dynasty (1523 - 1654)
1: Gustav I (commonly known as Gustav Vasa) had three queen consort: Katarina of Sachsen-Lauenburg, Margareta Leijonhufvud and Katarina Stenbock.
2: Erik XIV's queen consort was Karin Månsdotter.
3: Johan III had two queen consorts: Katarina Jagellonica and (2) Gunilla Bielke.
4: Sigismund's queen consort was Anne of Austria*.
5: Carl IX's queen consort was Christina of Holstein-Gottorp*.
6: Gustav II's queen consort was Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg.
7: Christina never got married.

* = Sigismund would get re-married to Anne's sister (!) Constantia, but he was no longer king of Sweden at the time, so she was never queen of Sweden. They still had Poland though.
* = Carl had previously been married to Maria of Pfalz, but she died before he became king.

The Pfalz & Hessen dynasties (1654 - 1751)
1: Carl X Gustav's queen consort was Hedvig Eleonora of Holstein-Gottorp.
2: Carl XI's queen consort was Ulrika Eleonora of Denmark.
3: Carl XII never got married.
4: Ulrika Eleonora's prince consort was Fredrik of Hessen. She later chose to abdicate and let him become king, suddenly making her his queen consort! *

*
Fredrik had previously been married to Lovisa Dorothea of Prussia, but it was only through his later marriage to Ulrika Eleonora that he could become the king of Sweden.

The Holstein-Gottorp dynasty (1751 - 1818)
1: Adolf Fredrik's queen consort was Lovisa Ulrika of Prussia.
2: Gustav III's queen consort was Sofia Magdalena of Denmark.
3: Gustav IV Adolf's queen consort was Fredrika of Baden.
4: Carl XIII's queen consort was Charlotta of Oldenburg.

The Bernadotte dynasty (1818 - present)
1: Carl XIV Johan's queen consort to Desirée Clary.
2: Oscar I's queen consort was Josephine of Leuchtenberg.
3: Carl XV's queen consort was Louise of the Netherlands.
4: Oscar II's queen consort was Sophia of Nassau.
5: Gustav V's queen consort was Victoria of Baden.
6: Gustav VI Adolf's queen consort was Louise Mountbatten*.
7: Carl XVI Gustav's queen consort is Silvia Sommerlath.

* Gustav Adolf had previously been married to Margaret of Connaught, but she died before he became king.
