Gustavus Adolphus (9 December 1594 – 6 November 1632), also known in English as Gustav II Adolf or Gustav II Adolph, was King of Sweden from 1611 to 1632, and is credited for the rise of Sweden as a great European power (Swedish: Stormaktstiden). During his reign, Sweden became one of the primary military forces in Europe during the Thirty Years' War, helping to determine the political and religious balance of power in Europe. He was formally and posthumously given the name Gustavus Adolphus the Great (Swedish: Gustav Adolf den store; Latin: Gustavus Adolphus Magnus) by the Riksdag of the Estates in 1634.

Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg (11 November 1599 – 28 March 1655) was a German princess and Queen of Sweden as the consort of King Gustav II Adolph (Gustavus Adolphus).

She was a daughter of John Sigismund, Elector of Brandenburg, and Anna, Duchess of Prussia, daughter of Albert Frederick, Duke of Prussia.

In 1620, Maria Eleonora married Gustavus Adolphus with her mother's consent, but against the will of her brother George William, Elector of Brandenburg, who had just succeeded her father. She bore her husband a daughter, Christina in 1626.

It was interesting that one of Maria Eleonora's suitors included the future King Charles I of England. If they had married, would the Commonwealth of England have occurred?
Queen Maria Eleonora spoke and wrote most often in French, which was the court language.

He was one of many suitors for Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg,another was Władysław IV Vasa,King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania but he was devoutly Roman Catholic and went for a Habsburg bride in the end.

Memorial concert at the Riddarholmen Church
The concert will be held at Sweden's royal burial church and Stockholm's only preserved mediaeval abbey in commemoration of Gustav II Adolf (1594–1632), King of Sweden from 1611 to 1632, who died on 6 November 1632 in Lützen.
