Topic on the Princes of Asturias (those who were kings and those who were not).

Princess or Prince of Asturias (Spanish: Princesa/Príncipe de Asturias) is the main substantive title used by the heir apparent or heir presumptive to the throne of Spain. According to the Spanish Constitution of 1978:

Article 57 [...] 2. The heir apparent or presumptive, from birth or event that makes him such, will have the dignity of Prince of Asturias and other titles traditionally linked to the successor of the Crown of Spain.

It is wrong to say that Felipe became Prince of Asturias in 1977. He became a Prince in 1975, which one can observe from old reports. In another thread you posted a magazine cover from 1976 where he is styled Prince.

https://www.theroyalforums.com/forum...ml#post2295826

The writer of the Wikipedia article clearly confused the year of his inauguration as Prince of Asturias with the year he succeeded to the title.

If he had remained an Infante until his inauguration, as Wikipedia is claiming, it would have been a major breach with Spanish tradition. There is an unbroken tradition that the eldest sons of the Spanish kings are known as Prince, regardless of whether or not they have been inaugurated as Princes of Asturias, of Gerona, and so forth.
