Lala Salma, una princesa de su tiempo - ABC.es
Quote:
Lala Salma, a princess of her time
Neither dreams would have thought the wife of Hassan II and mother of King Mohamed VI was going to travel abroad heading a delegation. The subjects saw little hair to Lala Latifa, who was never princess whose public life is almost nonexistent.
Lala Salma arrived yesterday in Abu Dhabi at the head of the Moroccan delegation to participate in a conference on women in the Arab world. The accompanying, among other authorities, one of several ministers in the Government of Rabat, Nouzha Skalli, in charge of social development, family and solidarity. It is not the first time that the young wife of the monarch goes abroad. It has also landed with King and other members of his family in some official photos or reports given to the French magazine "Paris Match" or the Moroccan 'Citadines'.
Without becoming a princess of the people, as some came to venturing, the style of Lady Di or as Rania of Jordan, Salma you are leaving to break molds.Of course, it is not she who brings the pace of change, but has traveled much when compared with some of the first ladies that make up the delegations attending this meeting.Mohamed VI wanted to change some things with his ascent to the throne in 1999. Without the harem or concubines in the palace, the ruler who left the village to see who became his wife in 2002. Salma Bennani, 30 years old and plebeian origin, appeared in newspapers and magazines around the world, alone and accompanied by the king. And that was a huge step for the royal household Allawi.
Lala Salma is not and is scheduled to be queen, princess and is the mother of two princes. Moulay Hassan, the heir and his sister Lala Khadija.

private visit to US

The official reason given is her work in the field of cancer and IMO her work surrounding this issue is very limited still. Her association was established very recently and is still in the early stages of development. A few years down the line and this award might have value but it seems excessive at this point.
As for the "political" motivation you speak of, that just makes it even worse.

Personally, I think that it is wonderful that Lalla Salma is being recognized. Yes, her foundation is in its infancy; however, she has brought a lot of attention to the need for cancer research. This foundation has a lot of potential, and we have only seen good things so far.
