Initial One billion euros earmarked for human development initiative

Agadir, 27 juin - More than MAD 10 billion, around 1 billion euros, have been earmarked to carry out the priority projects provided for by the Moroccan Initiative for Human Development (INDH) during the 2006-2010 period.

The funding convention of the initiative, known by its French acronym INDH, was signed here Monday by HM King Mohammed VI after it was worked out in five weeks, in the morrow of the Royal speech on May 18 that announced the large-scale, social policy based on integrated programs to reduce social disparities and fight exclusion. It is designed to provide basic infrastructure to millions, from adequate housing and drinking water to health care and education.

The convention, which was also signed by the Prime minister, the ministers of finance and the interior and the Hassan II Fund executive board president, provides for additional and progressive spending that will amount to MAD 1,5 billion in 2006 to reach MAD 2.5 billion by 2010.

The instrument is setting up this current year a special account (INDH support fund) in anticipation of the 2006 appropriation bill to secure additional and specific funding to the initiative.

The earmarked funds are drawn from the State general budget that is contributing 60%, local collectivities 20% and international cooperation 20%.

For the second quarter of 2005, MAD 250 million have been allocated to start on-the-terrain actions, contributed to by the State budget with MAD 50 million, local collectivites 100 million and the Hassan II Fund MAD 100 million.

After 2010, INDH funding needs will be reconsidered to identify resource consolidation mechanisms, according to future needs.

HM the King congratulates new Iranian President

Rabat, June 27 - HM King Mohammed VI has addressed a message to Iranian president-elect, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to congratulate him on his election.

Ahmadinejad received a landslide win with 17,248,782 (61.95 percent) votes out of total 27,959,253 in the election on June 24.
The sovereign wished in the message to the president-elect success in his mission to concretise the aspirations of the Iranian people to further progress and prosperity.

HM the king also expressed resolve to work for the development of bilateral relations, the consolidation of solidarity between peoples of the Islamic nation and the triumph of values of peace, security and prosperity in the world.

HM King Mohammed VI receives Pakistani FM

Agadir, June 28 - HM King Mohammed VI received Tuesday at the Royal Palace of Agadir, visiting Pakistani Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Makhdum Khurso Bakhtyar.

The envoy of the Pakistani head of State conveyed to the Moroccan king a message from Pakistani President, Pervez Musharraf.

Earlier, Bakhtyar held talks with Moroccan Foreign trade Minister, Mustapha Mechahouri, on the reinforcement of bilateral cooperation in trade. They evoked the different free trade and association accords which Morocco concluded with several countries, allowing it to become a platform for investment, production and exports.

The two sides highlighted the need to concretise the joint political will by establishing partnerships between Moroccan and Pakistani economic operators, and sharing expertise, notably in tourism and textile.

HM King Mohammed VI receives foreign ambassadors

Agadir, June 30 - HM King Mohammed VI received Thursday at the Royal Palace of Agadir (central Morocco) several foreign ambassadors who presented their credentials as ambassadors of their country in Morocco.

The ambassadors are namely Christian Dunant of Switzerland, Abdelmouhcine Mohamed Said of Iraq, Katia Petrova Todorova of Bulgaria, Joanna Wronecka of Poland, and Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso.

HM the king also received other ambassadors at the end of their mission in Morocco namely, Jarjar M. Kamara of Liberia, Michel Cambanis of Greece, Ali Moutanna Hassan of Yemen, Ahmed Mekki Ahmed Yahia of Sudan, Haydon Boyd Warren-Gash of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

'Ties between Morocco and the United States are getting stronger', HM the King:


July 4 -Rabat, "Ties between Morocco and the United States are getting stronger and stronger at bilateral, regional and international levels thanks to (...) our keen determination to enhance and expand our strategic partnership", said HM King Mohammed VI in a message to U.S. president George W. Bush.




"I am convinced the close, longstanding friendship which has united our countries for more than two centuries, together with the common views we hold on all matters of interest to our nations, will help us fulfill our aspirations, strengthen our strategic partnership and make the most of the many cooperation opportunities offered to us," underlined the message, addressed to the American president on the occasion of the Independence Day of the United States.

The Moroccan king expressed "deep appreciation" for President Bush continued support for the political, economic and social reforms underway in Morocco.

He added that he is keen on working with the American President "in order to consolidate the bonds uniting our peoples, who share a firm belief in the lofty values of democracy, freedom, tolerance and constructive interaction between all peoples and cultures".

This, he said, will "help us uphold human rights, preserve man’s dignity and achieve sustainable development in a world where stability, peace and security prevail."

Royal message highlights brotherly and solidarity ties with Algeria


Rabat, July 5 - The Kingdom of Morocco is keen to endeavor for consolidating brotherly and solidarity ties between Morocco and Algeria and their two peoples, said a message of HM King Mohammed VI to the Algerian president.


Morocco has a firm will to deploy efforts to promote fruitful cooperation relations between the two countries and enlarge their prospects, read the message, which was sent on the occasion of the Algerian independence day.

The message stressed HM King Mohammed VI will work, in coordination with president Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to hoist bilateral relations to the level of sincere brotherliness, following a global vision founded on mutual respect, constructive dialog and true commitment as a healthy way to concretize common development expectations.

These foundations, continued the message, will also reinforce the bases of the Maghreb Arab Union (UMA - a grouping that muster, Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia), and help overcome disagreements of all kinds.

King enquires about expatriates welcome site


Casablanca, July 11 - HM King Mohammed VI visited, Monday, the welcome site set up in Casablanca Mohammed V airport by the Mohammed V Solidarity Foundation for Moroccan expatriates.


Detailed explanations were given to the monarch about the Mohamed V airport welcome site, as well as on the different sites and rest areas established in entry points throughout the county to provide the necessary assistance to the Moroccans living abroad coming home for summer holidays.

The Foundation has set up, part of the 2005 Marhaba (welcome) operation, welcome sites in France, Spain, Italy, as well as in the Moroccan cities of Tangiers, Nador, Al Hoceima and Bab Sebta (north), and in Angad-Oujda (northwest), according the Foundation’s stats.

The Foundation mobilized, up to July 9, some 344, including social workers, physicians, nurses, casual employees, and operators.
433,993 Moroccan expatriates entered Morocco since May 1.

King receives French Minister of Foreign Affairs

HM King Mohammed VI received Philippe Douste-Blazy, French Minister of Foreign Affairs, on Tuesday in the Royal Palace of Casablanca.

The Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mohammed Benaissa, the Minister-Delegate of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Taib Fassi Fihri and the Kingdom's ambassador in Paris, Fathallah Sijilmassi took part in this meeting.

HM King Mohammed VI arrives in Niger

Niamey, July 19 - HM King Mohammed VI of Morocco arrived, here Tuesday, in a visit that comes following a royal decision to bring humanitarian support to the west African country.

HM the king was greeted at the airport by President Mamadou Tandja and several other officials.

The Moroccan sovereign is scheduled to visit the field hospital established in Maradi by the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces 600km of the capital Niamey to assist Niger authorities in emergency on-the-terrain operations.

The lives of some 3 million inhabitants, mostly women and children, are threatened in Niger because of a dire drought fanned by the invasion of desert locust.

Everything is to make specific. King Mohamed I SAW almost dedicated the integrity of its speech of past 20 of August, in that the revolution of the king and the town was commemorated, to concienciar and to insist to the Moroccans to fight together against the poverty and the social inequality. The "new revolution", as they denominate some Moroccan newspapers, tries to restrain the rate of poverty that during the last years - under the reign of the present monarch it has continued growing, and to create a solid infrastructure base that guarantees the development of the zones and worked against more of the country.

King Mohammed VI's reign marked by great reforms, Spanish paper


Madrid, Sept. 27 - King Mohammed VI's reign is marked by ushering great reforms in various realms, wrote Monday the Spanish daily "Cinco Dias".

The paper said the kingdom will open up its market to level up its economy, underling that Morocco is "strongly committed" to raise the standards of Moroccan companies to those in the other shore of the Mediterranean.

King strongly condemns 'terrorist attacks' in Bali


Rabat, Oct. 2 - King Mohammed VI of Morocco has strongly condemned as "barbarous" the terrorist attacks in Bali, in a condolence message to Indonesia President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.


"Whatever the cruelty and the cowardice of these acts of terrorism that have no religion, nor homeland, they will in no way affect the resolve of the Indonesian people known for being firmly committed to civilization values of peace, moderation and openness," said the monarch.

"By targeting any country, terrorism will strengthen the international community's resolve to step up efforts to get rid of its authors," said the king who joined thus a chorus of condemnation of Saturday's bombings on the Indonesian resort island of Bali that left at least 26 people dead and more than 100 injured.

Over fourteen hundred kilometers to be built in Guelmim for more than USD 95Mn:


Guelmim, Oct. 5 - Two conventions to build 1,418 rural roads in the region of Guelmim-Es-smara (about 800 km south of Rabat), worth MAD 870.2Mn (USD 95.5Mn) were signed, Wednesday in the presence of King Mohammed VI.

This program, to be carried out part of the Second National Program for Rural Roads (PNRR II), will raise the rate of accessibility of the rural population to the road network in the region from 39% now to 83% in 2015.

The budget will be contributed to by the Ministry of Equipment and Transportation, USD 81Mn, while the provincial and the regional councils and the beneficiary communes will pay the rest.

PNRR II provides for the construction of 15,000 km between 2005 and 2015 all over the country.

HM King Mohammed VI has launched on Monday the construction of seven socio-cultural centres in Casablanca:

10-October 2005-The sovereign inaugurated the first centre in the Sidi Bernoussi quarter (Sidi Moumen). A total of MAD 5 million will be earmarked for the project.

The king has also launched the construction of six other centres in many prefectures and districts of Casablanca.

The centres will be constructed in the districts of Anfa, Hay El Fida Derb Soultane, Ain Chock, Hay Hassani, Ben M'sick, and Moulay Rachid.

The seven centres, which cost MAD 245 million, will be established with the partnership of the Mohammed V foundation for solidarity and the council of Casablanca.

Casablanca, Oct. 13 - King Mohammed VI received, Thursday, the personal envoy of the UN Secretary General for the Sahara, Peter Van Walsum.

Walsum, who met, Wednesday, with Moroccan Premier, Driss Jettou, declared that meeting, and the subsequent meetings with the officials of the region, aim at "exploring means to pull the Sahara issue out of the current political deadlock."
