The battle continue:

"The queen's will named 46-year-old Prince Misuzulu, her eldest son with King Zwelithini, as the heir and next king.
But another prince objected and interrupted the announcement at the KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province. Two princesses also have questioned whether the late king's will gave Queen Mantfombi the right to nominate a successor upon her death."

Not surprising that the queen-regent named her own son (and not one of the other wives' sons) as the new king...

Royalblog (in Dutch) reports about it as well.

Newly appointed amaZulu King Zwelithini is expected to receive his first annual budget allocation from the KwaZulu-Natal government on Friday. KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala will deliver his 2021/2022 budget, which incorporates that of the amaZulu Royal household.

“Working together with the royal family, we will soon finalise and announce the date for the coronation of His Majesty Misuzulu ka Zwelithini. This will be the first coronation in a long time and will be a fitting tribute to His Majesty King Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu who would have reached 50 years on the throne this year,” Zikalala said.

I am also intrigue in African kingdoms, so I bought and read a glossy photobook with every African history of different countries including South Africa, NIgeria, Ivory Coast, Congo, Cameroon etc. etc. including the History of the origins of the African Kingdoms by Pierre Alexandre. The title of the glossy coffee table photo book is "African Kings" by Daniel Laine.

When I try to compare Africa's traditional monarchies to other ones in Europe or Asia they remind the situation in places like the Holy Roman Empire/Confederation/German Empire, the Italian states in the Renaissance or more recent, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia's elected federation of monarchs. Each has its own traditional government within a larger entity.

I'm glad the republican forms of government respect these leaders because they represent a continuity of the people's history beyond the time republics existed.
