I wish these two would get married already!

Does anyone know what the ceremony would be like? I have always read that the family is Muslim but I don't know what traditional Albanian Muslim weddings are like as compared to those in other countries.

I read that when the remains of King Zog were repatriated prayers were offered by Catholic, Orthodox, and Muslim dignitaries/leaders so I'm actually confused as to what faith the family practices.

do u have photos of Albanian Royals in Spain???

No, a date has not been decided or announced.
The likely marriage ceremony would most probably be a civil registration ceremony with the inclusion or seperate blessing ceremony of Sunni Muslim, Bektashi Sufi Muslim, Roman Catholic, and Albanian orthodox religions.
Although the Albanian Royal family is traditionally Muslim (King Zog, King Leka, and Prince Leka II), the Monarchy was civil and secular.

A good page for the Albanian RF:
Albanian Royal Family - History

One story from that page about Albanian princesses that I find interesting:
In the early 1930s, in a hotel on the Côte d’Azur, three of them found themselves in the same elevator with Otto von Habsburg. Otto bowed and wished them a good morning, but the princesses turned their heads. “Why didn’t you accept the archduke’s greeting?” asked their companion, an Albanian diplomat. “He has fallen,” the eldest sister responded with a contempt that only a new – or a very old – dynasty could master [Fenyvesi 1979: 233].

About seventy years later, when I asked about the alleged and highly publicised meeting, the Archduke said he didn’t recall it ever happening: “It is the first time I ever heard about this” [private communication with HIRH Archduke Otto of Austria, 26th September 2007]. That hardly surprises because the Princesses’ story, and in many aspects also their brother’s one, went through so many transformations that the existing myth hardly reflects the reality. So who were these six mysterious Princesses?

To me the story seems a little bit of truth mixed up with imagination-I can´t believe they would NOT greet Otto von Habsburg,he was a well-respected man and politican (also quite handsome when he was young)-so even if they thought he was less important they would still not ignore him:ermm:

Here´s a picture with his daughter Walburga:

^In response to the last post it took me a while to figure out who these princesses were. I can't comment as to whether it's a true story or not. I guess these would have been King Zog's sisters.

There's old footage of them here from their visit to New York:

Edited to add: This story is right on the Albanian royal family's site. Duh. I should have looked there first.

So, is the family Muslim or Albanian Orthodox? I'm slightly confused. Thanks for the clarification.

His fiancee looks older and much more polished than in past photos. Very elegant. Lovely photo of the couple.

But the Albania can become a monarchy?
I wanted to ask whether there are chances of Albania to become a monarchy?

Blog Real. At the funeral of King Leka I in November 2011, Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha publically admitted that the results of the 1997 Albanian monarchy referendum had been "manipulated" and that King Leka may have won. Berisha also said that the 1997 referendum result should be overturned or reviewed if found to be false. So there is a prospect of restoration in Albania. The royal family has had to undo sixty years of communist propaganda, and Prince Leka has been criticized because of his Hungarian and Australian heritage. But if he married Elia Zaharia who is a popular Albanian singer, he could garner enough support to win a second referendum. He currently works as an advisor in the Albanian Foreign Ministry- which will all stand in good stead in the evnt of another referendum. The problem is the socialists/ ex-communists. They will try to block any attempt to bring back the Zogy monarchy. Lets hope for the best. A restoration in neighbouring Montenegro will also help his cause.

Post wedding picture? Or, just a picture from recent times? She looks beautiful!

Thanks for the link! Curious if a wedding will ever happen of Leka and Elia.

We will see. The engagement time of Prince Aimone of Savoy and Princess Olga of Greece and Denmark lasts AFAIR three years until they married.

She seems very beautiful, and 'well turned out', but its a pity he's dressed 'like a sack of spanners.'

Most men look very distinguished in 'White tie', but he looks like an unkempt adolescent !

Nevertheless i wish them joy in their life and marriage together.

Does Leka is waiting for the return of the monarchy to marry?

Albania also had a previous dynasty in the early 20th century, with Wilhelm von Wied its ruler.

Subsequently, Albania became a republic, and, oddly, Mehmet Zogu was its President.

Oddly I say, because President Mehmet Zogu of Albania, and King Zog (deposed 1939) were one and the same person.

:previous:
He was born an hereditary Bey, educated in Constantinople, and had close relations with the Muhammad Ali dynasty of Egypt. No surprise then that he did a Napoleon III and rose from President to King.

Poor Wilhelm zu Wied never stood a chance. Though a conscientious and well-meaning Prince from a minor princely House, he was 'parachuted' into a feudal anarchic backwater and five months later, WWI broke out. That was the end of that. At least he kept his head [to run with the analogy], as opposed to Napoleon III's doomed surrogate, Maximilian, in Mexico.

Particularly in a state where the political culture would be described as chronically rough and especially susceptible to the consequences of high profile personality conflicts, the gravitation of power towards those of proven Proconsular skills can be said to have been a defining aspect of how some Royal dynasties have emerged.
