The Golitsyn princely family are descendants of the Gediminid dynasty who were a ruling family from that region

The Kingdom of Livonia was a nominal state in what is now the territory of Estonia and Latvia. The Russian Tsar Ivan IV declared the establishment of the kingdom during the Livonian War of 1558–1583, but it never functioned properly as a polity.

There was never a Grand Duchy of Latvia ,however the territories made up the Duchy of Livonia and the Duchy of Courland.

The ancient houses of von Liewen and Koskull are descended from the Livonian king Kaupo of Turaida through his daughters. This is reflected in their coat of arms.

Many families in the Polish-Lithuanian, Ruthenian and Russian aristocracy belong to the House of Gediminid. Examples of this are the aforementioned Galitzines and the Kurakins, Czartoryskis, Trubetskoys, Sanguszkos ...

But the Golitsyns are the senior most descendants of the Gediminid.
