Statement by H.M. The King due to Kofi Annan's death
It is with great sorrow that I and the whole royal family received the message about Kofi Annan having passed away.
Kofi Annan was a warm and listening person who was characterized by profound wisdom.
Kofi Annan was a great leader with much empathy who was constantly working for human rights.
Over the years, I and our entire family developed a personal friendly relationship with Kofi Annan and his wife Nane.
Our warmest thoughts go now to Nane Annan and her family.

On Thursday, 30th and Friday 31st August, king Carl Gustaf held farewell audiences at the Royal Palace.
The ambassadors who leave Sweden are Sudan's ambassador Mahgoob Uthman Fadl Elseed, Albanian ambassador Ilir Abdi, Sri Lankan ambassador, Renuka Damayanthie Rajapakse, Namibian ambassador Morina Muuondjo and Malaysian ambassador Norlin Othman.

King Carl Gustaf visits today Bygdsiljum and Skellefteå.
Press release from the County Administrative Board of Västerbotten:
The theme of the day is From forest to sustainable construction.
The visit begins in Bygdsiljum at Martinssons. There is a walking tour as well as a dialogue about the conditions for industrial wood construction and the possibilities for refining the Swedish forest and using it to build climate-friendly housing.
In Skellefteå, a visit is planned at Morö Backe school, made of solid wood from the forest around Bygdsiljum. At Morö Backe school there is a clear link between the fact that the school environment is of wood well-being, as well as school results and health.
A walking tour and exhibition of Ekorren's parking garage, an example of how modern infrastructure projects can be built in wood, is followed by a seminar on industrial and sustainable wood construction. The day ends with a visit to the Zero sun pilothouse, a modern villa as self-sufficient for solar energy even during the dark season.

King Carl Gustaf gave today formal audiences to four new ambassadors, Ivan Pavlov from Bulgaria, Florencio Joel Alberto Sele from Mozambique, Yuba Nath Lamsal from Nepal and Romina Elisabeth Taboada Tonina from Paraguay.

The king met today also 7-year-old Akram and his family at the Royal Palace. Akram has cancer form leukemia and was given the opportunity to meet the King through Stiftelsen Min Stora Dag (My Big Day Foundation).
During his hospital stay, Akram has talked a lot with his parents about the King and what the King does during the days.
When the King received foreign ambassadors in the morning, Akram was given the opportunity, together with his parents and brother, to see the ceremony of horses, military band and parading grenadiers.
Then they got to meet the King for an individual conversation in Lovisa Ulrika's dining room at the Royal Palace.

On Friday 14th September king Carl Gustaf visited the Royal Swedish Orchestra (Kungliga hovkapellet) to deliver the Orchestra's Medal of Honour for employees who
have worked for a long time in the orchestra. The king delivered medals to 22 members of the Orchestra. This was the second time when the medals were delivered, the first was in 2012.
The Royal Swedish Orchestra is one of the world's oldest, still active orchestral institution dating from 1526. The Orchestra has been serving since 1773 mainly at the Royal Opera. Today the orchestra consists of 107 musicians.

The king said that both his father, grandfather and great-grandfather were educated at the school. In 1973, the king himself took a shorter time in the Solback course, and:
- The Crown Princess has completed the Political Science program with focus on crisis management and international cooperation and participated in the Solbacka course. And Prince Carl Philip has undergone the higher reserve officer course, the king says and concludes:
I am convinced that the Swedish Defence University is very important for the continued development of our Swedish total defence system.

King Carl Gustaf delivered today the Sixten Gemzeus Grand Music Scholarship in the Hall of State at the Royal Palace to soprano Christina Nilsson.

On Sunday, September 30, the King released the Sixty Gemzéus Grand music scholarship to the opera singer Christina Nilsson at a ceremony in the Hall of State at the Royal Palace. The scholarship amounts to SEK 500,000 and is thus Sweden's largest national music grant.

The King will receive the Speaker of the Riksdag today. This is the first (official) meeting between the both of them after the Election.

The Speaker today appointed Ulf Kristersson, leader of the Moderate Party, to search the opportunities to form a government that is accepted by the Riksdag.

- We are proud that H.M. The king wants to come to the island and follow the work on how we develop and preserve the Gotland cultural heritage, says governor Cecilia Schelin Seidegård.
The public is welcome to follow the visit in connection with the fact that H.M. The king walks through Östergravar and is informed of the World Heritage Site and the work on the ring wall. Gathering at Österport at 11.00. During the walk, the Region Gotland's World Heritage Co-ordinator and Gotland Museum's building antiquary participate. The promenade goes through Östergravar to Dalmansporten and ends at the church hill overlooking the inner city

Olsson will present the names that the Academy wishes to be elected as new members. The Swedish Academy has reached a "breakthrough" and expects to be able to elect new members this week. But first, the king, who is the Academy's patron, must approve it.
After the meeting of the Academy on Thursday, contacts between the court and the academy have been made, and on Friday the king will meet with temporary permanent secretary Anders Olsson. Marshal of the Realm Fredrik Wersäll says:
- I have talked with the permanent secretary. The goal is that the king meets the permanent secretary late tomorrow morning, so that he will be able to present the names of the persons whom the Academy has decided to opt for, if his majesty approves.
Wersäll has also been in contact with the king himself about the meeting.
- I have talked to the king this evening to create the conditions for a meeting between the permanent secretary and his majesty, some time in the late morning tomorrow. We both thought it was reasonable, given the very high attention that had been paid to this issue, that the king's standpoint will come quite fast, Wersäll continues.
The meeting will be held at Stockholm Palace, and will be completely closed.
There is no indication in advance that the king would go against the Academy's proposal, according to Wersäll. But:
- Because I don't know who they are, it's hard for me to say. But it has usually been that the king has accepted the assessments made by the Academy. In the special situation that is today, the situation may be different, but I do not dare to speculate it. I hope the Swedish Academy has done careful work, and nothing suggests that it has been a long process that has been carefully thought out.
Fredrik Wersäll is one of those who has been identified as a possible candidate as a member of the Swedish Academy. But that the Marshal of the Realm dements.

According to a press release the King has approved the two names suggested by the academy. The two new members will be lawyer and judge of the Supreme Court Eric M Runesson and Teheran born poet Jila Mossaed who has published works both in Swedish and her native Persian.
 
King Carl Gustaf met today at the Royal Palace Andreas Norlén, the Speaker of the Riksdag.
The Speaker informed the King about the current situation in the process of making a proposal for new prime minister. The Speaker told that he has given the Social Democrats party leader Stefan Löfven the task of exploring the prerequisites for forming a government tolerated by the Riksdag.

King Carl Gustaf delivered the Prince Eugen medals. The Prince Eugen medal was founded by Gustaf V in connection with Prince Eugen's 80th anniversary in 1945. The medal is awarded for outstanding artistic deeds.

On Thursday, November 15, the King gave an audience to the Speaker of the Riksdag Andreas Norlén.
The Speaker informed the King about the current situation in the process of drawing up proposals for prime minister.
The Speaker told that he has given the Center Party party leader Annie Lööf the task of exploring the conditions for a government that can be accepted by the Riksdag.
