King Carl Gustaf attended today at the opening of Kristallen (The Crystal), Kiruna's new city hall and Norrbotten Museum

- This is a modern City Hall that becomes Kiruna's new living room, said the king.
When the King initiated the opening ceremony today, it was in the presence of a special invited guests, while the people of Kiruna have to wait until Saturday before being invited to open house. This has caused some reactions, given that the town hall has been physically designed to be inviting and welcoming.

On Thursday, November 22, the King inaugurated the Kristallen - Kiruna's new city hall and Konstmuseet i Norr (Art Museum in the north).
The new city hall is designed by the Danish architect company Henning Larsen Architects. In addition to facilities for Kiruna municipality, there has also been room for an art museum in Kristallen.
After the opening ceremony, the King and the other guests received a tour in Kristallen. Among other things, the Art museum and its inversion exhibition, Transitions, were visited under the guidance of County Art museum director Selma Green and artistic director Maria Ragnestam.

The king cancels trip to China
The King's planned trip to Hong Kong and Shenzhen in China has been cancelled at the last minute.
King Carl Gustaf has cancelled his participation a delegation trip to China organized by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, IVA, according to information officer Ulrika Näsholm. The trip was due to start on Sunday.
The reason is said to be the Swedish government crisis.
"Due to the ongoing government formation process in Sweden, the King has decided to resign from participating in IVA's trip to Hong Kong and Shenzhen 25 November-1 December", Näsholm wrote in an email to Di.

The king has nevertheless been on a number of trips during the fall. Does the king consider that there has been a change in government formation?
- Absolutely, the whole fall there has been very much travel and a just so complicated planning both in terms of travel and any consulations that you also have to prepare. If a council can be carried out relatively quickly, it is still a lot of planning given that we try to make sure that the entire royal family and, above all, the king are able to implement what is planned.
- This trip is so much longer, one week is a long time. The king consults and receives information from the Speaker continuously, no later than yesterday and a meeting is scheduled next week. In the state of government's formation process, the decision is that the head of state should be in Sweden, says Margareta Thorgren.

According to several Swedish media outlets the real reason behind The King cancelling his visit is Swedish displeasure with the imprisonment of Swedish-Chinese publisher and author Gui Minhai who's been kept behind bars since being kidnapped by Chinese secret agents in 2015.
The story broke when SVT claimed that negotiations to have Gui Minhai suddenly halted earlier this week causing The King and the Foreign Office to reconsider his trip.
Head of the Royal Press Office, Margareta Thorgren maintains that the reason behind the cancelled trip is the domestic political situation in Sweden.
Expressen has tried to reach the Swedish Minister of Foreign affairs, Margot Wallström who declined to comment.

Later today the king gave today farewell audiences to four ambassadors.
Ambassadors who now leave Sweden are Armenian ambassador Artak Apitonian, Azerbaijan ambassador Adish Mammadov, Brazil ambassador Marcos Pinta Gama and Lithuanian ambassador Algimantas Rimkunas.

King Carl Gustaf attended on Friday at seminar ”Skönhet och beständighet IV” (Beauty and Durability, part IV), which this time handled the construction of multi-storey wooden houses.
On site there were a number of experts in the area who presented their development opportunities, their experience, research and analysis.
The seminar was initiated by the King and was conducted by the Royal Court and The Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts.

Yes, it appears Sweden is at long last getting a new government. With Löfven as the new/old PM.

What are the formalities regarding the Swedish King, if any, when there is a majority pointing at a new PM?

The King heads the special cabinet council held when there is a change of government, but besides that he has no involvement whatsoever in the forming or approving of a new government.
After the formation a new government the Royal family hosts a dinner for the new government and the new parliament.
This means that there's no shuffling between the House of Parliament and the Royal Palace like Helle's endless parade over the court yard at Amalienborg. [emoji6]

The King was informed, among other things, about that the Speaker presentes proposal to the Prime Minister on Wednesday.

Today, on the King's Name Day (Carl), has the list of medalists for some of the Royal medals been announced.

Interesting this time is that the Seraphim Medal is awarded to the author and Auschwitz survivor Hedi Fried. The medal has only been awarded 14 times since the King's accession in 1973. Also worth noting is that the Olympic gold medalists from Peyongchang 2018 is awarded a medal in size 5 on a blue ribbon.

All medalist could be found here, and the medals are presented in ceremony at the Royal Palace by the King and Queen on February 20th:

Congratulations to Hédi Fried for a well deserved award for her tireless work against racism and for democracy. The pictures of the 94-year old demonstrating against the Nazi rally in Ludvika this summer alone is enough for her to receive my utmost respect.
A very good decision by the King.

Indeed a excellent decision by the King, but somewhat surprising. There is now four living persons, including Hédi Fried, with the Seraphim Medal.

I'd say that although well deserved the award is also politically motivated. Unfortunately we see today that the far-right is on the rise and by highlighting Hédi Fried's work against them and for victims of genocide the King takes a stand and clearly shows where his sympathies lie. Hédi is an inspiration to everyone who is opposed to racism and illiberal ideologies. Seeing photos of her, aged 94, demonstrate against the Nazi rally in Ludvika last summer almost made me cry.
