The visit ended at Kalmar Cathedral. The king and queen had made a wish that a visit to the Cathedral would be at the visit program.

It was the royal couple's own initiative to end the visit with a look at Kalmar Cathedral. The promised questions from the press did not materialize, instead Governor Peter Sandwall had to tell about the royal couple's experience.
- This is their home county and they are well acquainted with the conditions that exist here, he says. What may stand out in Kalmar County is our ability to collaborate between different agencies. But also our ingenuity and the competence to quickly change operations.
He believes that it has been a successful day.
- Yes, we have managed to cover most parts, association life, culture, business, healthcare and school. Our head of state came to us to see how we have handled the pandemic.

About the King and queen's visit to Nova during their county visit to Kalmar on 20th August:
During the visit, Bengt Karlsson Moberg spoke about Nova's mission "To contribute to sustainable regional development through higher education, research and development and business development in collaboration with business and universities" and how we have handled the corona pandemic and what it has meant for the business.
Among other things, during the pandemic, Nova handled 700 students and a network of around 300 people completely digitally, which has meant great flexibility and forcing the digital development. Through company pilots from Atrinova, it has been possible to support companies in crisis.
The King and Queen showed great interest in the unique concept that Nova constitutes and how important it is for the municipality / region to continue to develop well. They emphasized the positive aspects of starting from local and regional needs.

Today the King and Queen take part in Svenska Kungsrallyt/The King's Rally.
The Rally was started in connection with King Carl XVI Gustaf's 50th birthday and through donations from the Swedish people, it was possible to give the King a Swedish car on his big day. This car, a Volvo PV 60 1946, he drove for the first time in August 1997 in connection with the Swedish Royal Rally on Öland. The rally is usually held every two years on Öland but last year it was canceled due to the pandemic.

This year about 115 crews participate in the rally. Due to the current pandemic, the public will not be allowed to attend the start, nor at the checkpoints. There is plenty of space for the audience to view the 114 participating crews along the rally loop.
Half of the cars start the rally by driving south from Borgholm, and half start by driving north.
Approximate times for the first car in the group driving south are given below and times in parentheses refer to the arrival time for the first car that starts by driving the loop north.
Räpplinge, at 10.00 (Lindby at 12.50)
Glömminge, 11.00 (12.25)
Långlöt, 11.30 (12.10)
Gärdslösa: 12.15
Köpingsvik, 12.30 (10.30)
Löt, 12.45 (10.45)
Bredsättra, 13.15 (11.25)
Then freely chosen road back to Borgholm.

Ceremony at Piteå square
On the occasion of the 400th anniversary, a ceremony was held on Piteå square. Then the King gave a speech in which he said, among other things:
“Almost exactly 50 years ago, I was here on Rådhustorget to celebrate Piteå's 350 years as a city. That was in May 1971. Some of you may have been there then as well. In any case, it feels very fun to be back for this even bigger anniversary. And this time in the company of the Queen! ”
After the speech, the King unveiled the sculpture Kastal, which was developed on the occasion of the city's 400th anniversary and to mark 100 years of Swedish democracy.
The ceremony ended with the Academy of Music in Piteå's chamber choir performing a piece of music.
Ceremony in Luleå city park
After the celebration in Piteå, the Royal Couple went to Luleå where they began the visit by attending a ceremony in the newly renovated Stadsparken. Then the King gave a speech in which he said, among other things:
“A city is not just its streets and its houses, churches and restaurants. A city is also the place where it is located. It is its surroundings. And it is above all its inhabitants!”
After the speech, the King planted a forest maple in memory of the anniversary.
The day ended with a dinner at the governor's residence.

How interesting. What are the odds they might have spent the weekend at Balmoral?
