Aftonbladet's royal expert Jenny Alexandersson said today at podcast "Kungligt med Jenny Alexandersson", that king Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia flew yesterday to New York. She said that the calendar of the king and queen is empty until the beginning of February. It is exciting, it is a private trip or perhaps something to do with World Childhood Foundation's 20th anniversary, Childhood has a big office in USA, Alexandersson was guessing.
Därför är kungaparet inte i Sverige _ Aftonbladet

At the moment queen Silvia has her next work event at the court's calendar on 5th February, her latest work event was on 16th January.
King Carl Gustaf has his next work event on 9th February. He had work events on 21st January.

EDIT Svensk Damtidning writes that Aftonbladet was the first to tell about the trip to New York, and that the calendars of the king and queen are empty until February.

"Everything about this US journey is so very secret so far.
Much still tells us that the unexpected New York visit is somehow work-related. The royal couple are known for their high job pace and would hardly plan a long vacation almost immediately after the long holidays.
At the same time, Queen Silvia's charity organization the World Childhood Foundation turns 20 years, which of course will be highlighted both in Sweden and the United States. A great charity dinner at restaurant Tyrol in Stockholm will be in two weeks, while it has been quiet about how the celebration in the US should go.
Svensk Damtidning seeks the director of the press department Margareta Thorgren.

Maybe wise considering the trip to Brussels tomorrow and Wednesday. Speaking of that, wonder if they will call upon King Philippe and Queen Mathilde while in Brussels.

I hope Carl Gustaf makes a speedy recovery. I agree that the decision seems like a wise plan especially since colds can be more serious for elderly people.

Historian Herman Lindqvist tells at his column in Svensk Damtidning, that king Carl Gustaf got his first National Geographic Magazine when he was ten years old. The king has told Lindqvist that he has saved every monthly magazine after that, and now he has 750 National Geographic Magazines.
When Carl Gustaf was young, he had his grandfather's brother prince Wilhelm in Stenhammar, with whom he talked about travelling, Wilhelm had been at long expeditions in Africa and South America when he was young.
King Carl Gustaf's dream was to become a kind of explorer, travel there where no one has ever been and make the journey without a follow-up of bodyguards, functionaries and a watch and day program in the hand, smashing photographers and people he must meet which he really did not want to see at all. Now, after forty-six years as a king, he has seen most corners of the world. He has conducted 82 state visits and with all trips to the Olympics, exhibitions and campaigns for Sweden plus all his own highly private trips, he has been in far over 100 countries. It is the nature and the animals that attract him most of all, the only weapon he wants with him is his camera.

If I recall correctly The King did some work with SIDA for a few months in the late sixties and travelled through Ethiopia and Kenya totally incognito

:previous: It gives the sense that the King was/is somehow ill at ease with the constant public interest, in contrast to his wife and older daughter. I wonder if his childhood dream in combination with his nature tourism had an effect on his enthusiastic support of environmental issues.

where spend the royal couple the easter holiday?
They often spend Easter in their house in Storlien. The King inherited the house from his parents who received it as a wedding gift in 1932.

Do you know if he inherited most or all of his parents' private fortune, or if it was divided amongst their five children?

About queen Silvia spending last weekend in Heidelberg with her brother and his family

Queen Silvia saw the castle lighting on board of the "Königin Silvia"
The Swedish monarch extended her stay in Heidelberg. The Weiße-Flotte ship was already booked.
It was a successful completion of her stay in Heidelberg: After Queen Silvia had inaugurated the Childhood House at the University Hospital on Thursday and accepted the Karl-Kübel-Prize in Bensheim on Friday, she extended her stay over the weekend to spend time with the family of her eldest brother Ralf de Toledo-Sommerlath. On the program was also a boat trip with the flagship of the Weiße-Flotte named after the Queen, from which the Monarch looked at the last castle lighting of the year.
Fortunately, it did not rain during the fireworks and the wind conditions were ideal, so that the many thousand visitors on the banks of the Neckar and the royal visit had a good view of the colorful rockets.
"We knew that Queen Silvia would be watching the fireworks, so we discussed in advance with pyrotechnics company Beisel, which is responsible for the fireworks, that we would like to have blue and yellow elements in the fireworks", says the CEO of Heidelberg Marketing, Mathias Schiemer. So the pyrotechnician built two elements in the Swedish national colors in the entree of the spectacle.
Queen Silvia was the guest of the Weiße-Flotte for the third time. The Swedish monarch was on board together with her eldest brother Ralf, her sister-in-law Charlotte and her nephew Thomas Sommerlath and his wife. "When the request came, the ship was already fully booked", reports Karl Hofstätter, Managing Director of the Weiße Flotte.
For the namesake of the ship, the trip was of course made possible and a table for the guests was prepared in the salon. Chef Bruno Merkhoffer served Caesar salad with prawns in a potato stew, beef fillet on red wine jus with potato gratin and fresh market vegetables and for dessert chocolate biscuit with wild berries on mango sorbet and truffles.
The mood was sensational, Hofstätter reports. At the latest when Elke Singer together with the band "Addicted plus" sang Abba hit "Dancing Queen" for the royal guest, the song which was played in honor of the Queen the day before her wedding with King Carl Gustaf in June 1976 in the royal Opera in Stockholm.
"Queen Silvia thanked us for a wonderful evening", says Hofstätter. And the other passengers had been radiant when leaving the ship.

Member of the Swedish Academy and Chinese specialist Göran Malmqvist is dead. He passed away on Friday, 95 years old. A death message that the royal family has received with sadness.
In a statement, the royal couple, via Margareta Thorgren, says:
- The royal family has received the sad news. The royal couple knew Göran Malmqvist personally.

Svensk Damtidning:
Emperor Naruhito's coronation in Tokyo was just such a mission, where the date had been decided long ago, and where the Queen had in good time agreed to go to Japan with the King.
But then, with relatively short notice, she chose to step aside, this to give Crown Princess Victoria a chance to meet the Imperial couple and their other royal colleagues in the new generation.
So what does a queen do when she suddenly gets an unexpected gap in the calendar?
- The Queen has other assignments this week. She works with internal duties at the Royal Palace, yes ordinary office work simply, says Margareta Thorgren to Svensk Damtidning.
Does it take place in her office, or does she also work from home in Drottningholm?
- Yes, it is quite obvious that she does.
The queen has last week's extremely intense visit to Lebanon with the Mentor Foundation done. We talked to one of those who saw her in action and he says spontaneously:
- She worked really hard!
So hopefully the canceled Japan trip also became a chance to breathe a little. And maybe get to meet a grandchild or two, completely spontaneously?

Queen Silvia has given an interview to Britt-Marie Mattsson at Göteborgs-Posten. The interview is behind a paywall.
Queen Silvia thinks #metoo is important, and wants a special metoo call where children can tell about sexual abuse and violence they have been subjected to. And she remembers how attendees at a conference in Paris "disappeared into the walls" when she spoke for the first time about child pornography.

She has no intention of leaving her work with her 20-year-old foundation, Childhood, but hopes that Princess Madeleine will one day take over. And she doesn't think that the King's decision about who belongs to "The Royal House" is particularly dramatic.
