The King bets by the State of Right to overcome to terrorism
Juan Carlos I has appreciated the collaboration of France in the fight against the terrorism, but during its speech he has not made a reference direct to the cease-fire of ETA.
King Don Juan Carlos has declared today in Paris, in the first day of the third official visit of the Royal Family to the Gallic country, his "conviction" of which "the instruments of the State of Right" and "the international cooperation" are "essential" to win to the terrorism, although without making a direct reference to the "permanent cease-fire" decreed by ETA the last week.
In his speech in the beginning of a supper in full dress, that has begun to 21:00 hours in the presidential Palace of the Elíseo, the monarch has appreciated the police, judicial collaboration and diplomatic French during "the length and hard challenge" that frees the Spanish State against the terrorism, "that destroys the life of so many victims and letter against the democratic coexistence in freedom".

It surprises me that such a serious newspaper as Le Figaro builds up such a rumour... I guess there are no 100% credible papers, after all...

Queen Sofía looked absolutely fantastic! I love that vanilla white (or whatever the colour could be called) suit with pale checkers, the Queen looked so elegant in it! And the evening dress in blue was just fantastic!
It's not everyday we get to see lovely ladies like Bernadette and Sofiá together!

Before the gala dinner, King Juan Carlos, Queen Sofia and the Chirac couple greeted more than 200 guests that attended the act, among them representatives of the politics, enterprise and culture, among others.
The King of Spain and President Jacques Chirac have agreed in emphasizing the common fight against terrorism, fruit of the judicial and police cooperation, which Don Juan Carlos specially thanked to the head of the French executive.
During the gala dinner that the president offered in his honour, Don Juan Carlos emphasized that that collaboration "is based on the conviction on that the instruments of the State of Right and the international cooperation turn out essential to fight against terrorism". "France has helped us very much before in this tough and long challenge” emphasized Don Juan Carlos, who wanted to take advantage of this occasion to “reiterate, in the name of the Spanish people and myself, our most sincere recognition".
The King has also added that "immigration, the fight against terrorism and organized crime are, among others, the sectors in which our citizens demand an European action", reason why Spain and France must "work together so that Europe wins in effectiveness, democracy and solidarity".
The King and the president of France, Jacques Chirac, had today a meeting in which they spoke of the "new situation" created by the announcement of the permanent cease-fire declared by ETA and of the narrow collaboration of both countries in the fight against terrorism. The meeting took place in the Palace of the Eliseo, in Paris, and counted on the presence of the respective Secretaries of State, Philippe Douste-Lazy and Miguel Ángel Moratinos.

The Kings' visit couldn't have come in a better moment, when ETA finally agreed to stop the attacks they have done in both countries

These pictures are fantastic! I love the outfits of the queen, and Chirac and the king sure look like they have a lively friendship. Can anyone post the first image in post #57 from a different source? When I enlarge it, the bottom half turns green! If not, thanks anyway and again, loving the photos so thanks to all who are posting!

Does anyone know if Madame Chirac curtsyed to Their Majesties and does any one know what the two miniature orders were that Queen Sofia and Madame Chirac were wearing in the form of bows.

King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain stand under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, Tuesday March 28, 2006. The three-day state visit to France , the monarch's first since 1985, points to still better bilateral ties sought by Spain's Socialist Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
