If we speak in medical terms, they are hopefully "negative"

The lesion is very small, this is actually and hopefully speaking for something benign.

This is most certainly a shock to me. I just hope this is not the start of a long battle, that HM [and the country] cannot afford [distraction from other problems].

The patology department of the hospital will check if the nodule is cancerous. King Juan Carlos smoke a lot. There is history of cancer in his family. His father, Don Juan de Borbon, died of cancer in the larynx.

the intervention has been a success, doctors have confirmed it..
I read that the intervention was expected since late April, this has been kept secret to avoid speculation
yesterday, he was with the vicepresident of USA ..
.Then he traveled to Barcelona to the intervention...
Best wishes to the King and a very rapid recovery

The pathologists already have analyzed it, and have rejected that is cancerous. Now they are going to realize a deeper analysis, to know which has been the origin of the nodule and to anticipate possible problems in the future.

The King is 72 years old and the normal thing is that the problems of health are increasingly habitual. But he is very controlled, every year does preventive controls and many examinations with the most advanced technologies, which means that any problem will have an early detection.

Maria Oliva, if the King is incapacitated the Prince can assume the regency, but in this occasion the House of the King and the Government believed it was not necessary. The Prime minister, the President of the Congress and the leader the political opposition were informed days before the surgery. The Prince is in an official trip in Costa Rica and he will follow the foreseen program.
