Not really, JC has always been a people's person, very folksy, especially his own generation has mellowed with age and have made their peace with him. He's done a lot for the country and made too many mistakes at the end.
He will produce a lot of costs, going back and forth with the private jet, but obviously no problem for the rich entourage.

Speaking of the entourage: it seems that the duke of Calabria was the king's escort for most of te days. He waswit te king in te sail boat and next to him during te volleybal match at least.

Well spotted and the duke of Calabria being a cousin was a good choice.

I saw the pictures online of Queen Sofia walking next to King Juan Carlos, and then seated together during the Funeral event. All I thought is awkward! They have been separated for years and in the Spanish press he was exposed trying to end his marriage while proposing to that lady I won't name here in the same line as Queen Sofia. But I'm sure, and hope, the Queen had the last say in every interaction.

Their interaction was sweet and loving with some moments of humour. They are mortals on an unbelievably long and eventful road where a throne was lost (Greece) and a throne was gained (Spain) with fabulously highs and dreadful lows, from attempted coup d'états to glory years.
Don Juan Carlos de Borbón y Borbón and Doña Sofía de Grecia y Hannover do not need to crawl together in a lits-jumeaux. They are professionals enough to give acte-de-présence to the farewell of a fellow Sovereign and - like themselves- a fellow descendant of Queen Victoria.

That doesn't change the fact that like many a wife whose husband has taken off, Sofia has wanted absolutely nothing to do with him since he re-exiled himself (and not that much before then). Can they be friendly for one day in public for the funeral of a close old friend and relative? Sure. Is the cold war continuing after one day of détente? That too.

I'm pretty sure Sofia went beyond being embarrassed by anything or anyone JC did a long, long time ago, and has separated herself so much emotionally that he no longer has the power to upset her anymore.
She'll probably be sad when he dies. But other than that, I don't think he (or any news or gossip about him) affects her too much.
