Interesting development. So, MT is really looking forward to leave Luxembourg behind. Unfortunately, her husband is kept rather busy over there and she has to show up sometimes as well... but 'in a few years time' they can leave it all behind.

I wonder whether they try to stay until Henri can at least celebrate 25 years on the throne; that would give Guillaume and Stephanie a few more years, so they can at least see little Charles off to school before their 'big job' awaits them. 70 seems like a reasonable age to retire for a monarch (a bit young but defendable) and Guillaume would be turning 44 in November 2025, so that's a nice age too (and very close to the age Jean ascended the throne; he ascended 2 months before his 44th birthday; so if Guillaume would ascend the throne in October that would be in the month before his 44th birthday - Henri himself was 45 1/2 years old at the start of his reign).

I was hoping that Gui and Stephanie and Charles would have a little more time to enjoy Fischbach as a family.

But if the image of the Grand Ducal couple has been as damaged as I suspect it has, this report makes sense.:ermm:

Its only gossip at the moment and summer is normally the silly season for it in royal circles ,lets wait until we hear something official.

Well certainly seems they have a life waiting for them in France - the Paris apartment, the chateau in Cabasson and now a flat in Biarritz. Of course it doesn't mean its happening anytime soon but interesting to note MT is open to referring to "possibly one day"

This morning, September 5, Grand Duke Henri visited the COVID-19 test centre at Luxembourg airport:

** monarchie: Visite du centre de test COVID-19 - Lux-Airport **

** lessentiel: Le Grand-Duc est allé se faire dépister au Findel **

Not only did he visit the center at the Lux-Airport, he also "led by example by submitting to screening. Aware of the importance of these tests in the fight against COVID-19, the Head of State encourages citizens and travellers to be tested and to continue to comply with the health measures in force."

I assume he was tested because he just returned from his vacation in France.

Well given the government report said the Grand Duchess has no formal role within the higher workings of the Cour I guess the only option was for her not to attend really. The Cour is Henri's responsibility and MT has her own agenda as Grand Duchess - as it should be.

Had she behaved differently over the years, I assume there would have been little reason to exclude her from meetings like this - but given the circumstances it would be very unwise had she insisted to attend. But it feels a bit like Henri is to be told how to move forward from now on instead of Henri being the one in charge.

Given how the Cour was and wasn't functioning and how both their reputations have been damaged by the report and with questions about what Henri was and wasn't aware of or involved in, it's not too surprising. Although usually in these circumstances there's more of an attempt to make it appear that the monarch is in charge of their household and not the government, even so.

I was told that Luxair has a new flight : Luxembourg - Biaritz.

So, Maria Teresa is open to retiring in Biarritz? Doesn't suprise me. Isn't that the French basque region? On her mother's side, her great-grandfather was a Spanish Basque from Santander and her grandparents had a family estate there where as a child she used to spend the summer time. She naturally has family from there. Biarritz is not far from Santander, so its plausible to imagine that she traveled all over the basque country side as a child including Biarritz. This gives some substance to the charge that M-T controls the relationship and Henri follows, since if they will retire there [and I know that its speculation], Henri would be going to an area that is near and dear to M-T.

Last week Grand Duchess Maria Teresa attended a jury dinner for Stand Speak Rise Up:
