All entertainment on the opera roof is canceled due to the weather.

Edit: NRK are now looking back on their life.

Edit: Looking back on the wedding and travels.

Edit: Looking back on the horrible year of 1998 and problems after.

Edit: NRK - Outside the opera - talking to guests.

Edit: Talking to guests inside the opera and the King/Queen is praised as usual.

Edit: More guests arriving
Can do you tell us why 1998 was the couple's annus horibilis?

now, how does it works, I see some of the Royals on the balcony with shawls , capes, etc.... but some of them when they entr the palace they have their shawls, some ones they have a different one and some ones not at all. Do tthey have a lady in waiting taking care of that?

I remember that the guest list for previous Scandinavian royal weddings included ladies-in-waiting and/or adjutants of the royal guests. I don't know if they are also being accompanied by ladies-in-waiting or adjutants at this particular event, but I'd assume it is very likely that they are.

jut to say...

I believe Princess Charlene of Monaco has been in South Africa over the last week or so for charitable work related to her foundation..just to justify her absence :)

A very happy birthday to the King and Queen of Norway :flowers: They seems like a nice down to earth couple.

*

It was quite lovely to watch the live-streaming and see how happy both Mary and Victoria are for their husbands. I noticed how both Mary and Victoria put their arms arounds their husbands several times while arriving. Lovely to see.

Or maybe Victoria and Mary just were grateful that their dotings husbands held the umbrella for them in this miserable rainfall... :D

Is that it for the coverage tonight then?

It's an interesting calculation each royal family has to make, and certainly the British family has made different decisions than the Scandinavians. I guess it depends on the way things tend to be seen in the context of each nation's cultural norms. To my point of view, the Scandinavians show that you can keep the glitz and ceremony in a way that welcomes the common people into the celebration, especially with the details of televising the dinners and speeches and such so that everyone can feel they've been a part of it.

I have to admit I sometimes struggle to not harshly judge the British family's approach. To me, the way they keep so much behind closed doors and the way they hold themselves at arm's length from royals of other nations feels very snobbish, setting themselves quite high above the average person or even the average royal. But I'm not from the UK, so I'm not who they need to worry about. Of course they must instead think more about what would be consider too showy or ostentatious in the British popular opinion. And what looks snobby to me may look restrained to them.

There is a difference between dressing up (with tiaras and orders) for an official state function (e.g. a state visit) and doing so for events like birthdays. In some countries like the UK or maybe Spain, the latter would probably attract a considerable amount of criticism, whereas the former is not only acceptable, but actually expected.

As far as weddings are concerned, the tradition in the English-speaking countries is to have weddings in the morning , which requires morning suit as dress code. White-tie attire is simply incompatible with English weddings.

Good find LF! It seems so.

I watched Queen Sonja's speech right now, as I missed it yesterday. it was wonderful, warm and loving. I actually teared up listening to her.

Where are King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia ? Weren't they supposed to attend tonight ?

They attended. They were seen at their arrival to the Opera House, and I think they were sitted next to King Constantine and Queen Anne Marie at the dinner.

If posters from the scandinavian countries have not seen Queen Margrethe's amazing speech from yesterday - then you all should. I Posted it in post 383 and 417.

It was indeed a lovely speech as well! The close bonds between the families are evident.

All of these royals gathered together just make ju wish for more, and especially royal-royal state visits.

:previous: Me too! I like seeing them hang out together in all their regalia. All the weddings of the direct Heirs for this generation have taken place, the last one was Luxembourg in 2012 and that was also the last time there was this big of a get together for all of them.
