i loved watching the footage of the balcony appearance as it gives us an opportunity to see the royals interacting with each other. i noticed how victoria and daniel danced (or wiggled, rather) as the music played, how mary and nikolaos also jokingly danced, how marie chantal helped that older lady get her shawl on (it must have been very cold!) or how mary and mabel greeted each other upon entering the hall again. it is always nice to see them with each other :) specially as WA's birthday some weeks ago left us, royal watchers, short changed without any official pictures! this at least made up for it.

however, the big question of the day is what on earth was the bra-less lady thinking not wearing a bra with such a 'light dress' when it is so cold out there?!

Any videos of the procession to the dining room where we can see the royals closer ?

i am sad to see charlene didn't attend. she would have been a fine addition of glamour! is she back from SA?

i wonder why it is that carl philip is partnered with mathilde, WA with maria teresa and frederik with beatrix? did they want to mix couples up for the dinner event? it is the first time i see random pairing taking place at royal events, as most times husbands accompany wives. of course, in beatrix case, in albert's case this time and sadly in mabel's case, they are not attending with a partner, so i understand that if they made husband-wife couples some people would dread going to such events as it must be boring being by themselves...

i also notice they are not entering the room in order of precedence and couples are not made by generations but are truly random. interesting dynamic... maybe it is to get people to talk to others they don't see often?

It's very common to mix guests at these royal events. I don't think I have ever seen married couples seated next to each other.

The Wolfers necklace / tiara looks small on Mathilde tonight (after the big appearance with the Nine Provinces last month in Denmark !), but she is certainly tall compared to poor Prince Carl Philip.

Is Princess Beatrix wearing the Württemberg tiara ? And the Pearl Button for Mabel ?

Queen Anne Marie looks great with her ruby parure, but GD Maria Teresa has not impressed me so far.

They also did the mixing thing at the 70th birthday gala in Norway.

The pairings during the procession was unique, interesting in fact. But poor CP, they should have paired her with Pavlos or Nicholas of Greece, she is just towering over him. CP Frederick with Beatrix was really sweet.
 
Why is it a problem that Mathilde is taller than Carl Philip? As long as they enjoy each others company at the table, I don't see a problem.

It is not a problem. Some males, however, feel uncomfortable when paired with taller women. I am not saying that is the case for CP though.
 
Yes, Mabel is wearing the pearl button tiara. It's the first time that she wears anything other than her wedding tiara.

Sofia is wearing the six button tiara for the first time. It's her fifth tiara, she's been racing through the collection since the last Nobels.

With CP Mette-Marit wearing the vifte tiara, it makes at least three first time tiaras. Not a bad haul. :D

"Racing through the collection" is not so difficult when there are so many items to choose from as it is the case for the Dutch and Swedish ladies.

Poor Queen Mathilde on the other hand could have worn the Art Deco tiara tonight, which would have been the ideal choice for this type of event (neither too grand, nor too small), but Queen Paola won't lend it to her and might even leave it to Princess Astrid, who has very little need for a second tiara.

Exactly. It's not a problem. Just looks strange since there were taller men there that could have escorted her. And some females feel uncomfortable when paired with shorter men.

Quite right, but apart from a good collection, you also need a sufficient number of event. Which the Swedish Court luckily provides with the Nobels, Representation Dinners etc.

Poor Mathilde is already better off than her mother-in-law ever was, but I agree: the Art Deco bandeau should stay in the main line.

I believe she is the granddaughter of Prince Carl Bernadotte, who was the brother of King Harald's mother (and also the brother of Queen Astrid of Belgium !).
