i saw the group picture of the European Crown Princes and Princesses, and coudn't help wondering, from 5 crown princesses, 4 of them are bare neck! why?? MM look gorgeous, but i think the tiara is to small, isn't it? if, the people see it for the first time, i think they will think that she wasn't wear a tiara.
and btw, does anyone know why Maxima wearing a different sash? doesn't she suppose to own the order of St. Olav? and where is Spainish Royalty?? also, Jordanian delegations? does anyone know about them??

- it is the own choice of the Princesses to wear a necklace or not. Some find it 'overdressed', some find it more pretty without. There were ladies with grand necklaces anyway, like Princess Mabel of Orange-Nassau (four strand diamond choker with ruby clasp from the Mellerio Parure) or Princess Astrid of Belgium (Savoia-Aosta diamond-and-emeralds necklace)
- Princess Máxima wore the ribband belonging to Dame Grand Cross in the Order of the Netherlands Lion because there have not been official state visits between Norway and the Netherlands since her wedding in 2002. Queen Beatrix visited King Olav in 1986 and King Harald visited Queen Beatrix in 1996. So that was way before Máxima was a Princess
- the Princess of Asturias cancelled her attendance due to the tragic death of her sister miss Érika Ortiz Rocasolano
- I don't know why there were no Jordanese royals. There also were no Thai, Moroccoan and Japanese royals. I think the King has only invited European royals.

there were no word that the Prince and Princess of asturias was supposed to attend even before the tragic death, so there is no cancellation.
There are usually not royals from japan, morocco, thailand and jordan at norwegian events, though I think there were a couple of jordanian royals at Märthas wedding and Märtha is sort of close to Princess Haya, atleast back when she was more active with the horses.

It could have been just a nice gesture but normal non-royal people don't curtsey to each other when they start to dance any more. I didn't know the Norwegians were that strict on protocol; but it looked grand and it gave Harald a chance to 'curtsey' back which was quite cute and charming.

No! Queen Sonja "curtseyed" to Ari Behn´s father at the wedding ball of Märtha Louise just before she started to dance with him! And we must all admit he is lightyears away from being a monarch...
I´s more from the old custom, when a man and a woman used to dance together in the old days: The man bows, the lady curtseys.

It's one of my favourite pictures: The Family celebrates their King.

It is just amazing how much like Sonja the whole family looks like, including Ari Behn and Mette-Marit

very very late but here are a cute video from his birthday:
Video 1 -
I love how Victoria is talking to Maud Angelica. She said something like "Hi Lillema, Are you doing fine? Oh how good. It's great..." and something more.

I do not know a single Norwegian word but during one open-air ceremony, a choir sang to the tune of the British "God save the King/Queen". Does anyone have a clue as to what this is all about?

It is the Norwegian royal anthem, which is inspired by "God Save the Queen" and uses the same tune Unlike God Save the Queen, it is fairly rarely used, except on New Year's Eve when the King has a speech on national television, and other events when the King is present.
Wikipedia has both the Norwegian lyrics and a translated version: Kongesangen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Τhank you so very much Norwegianne.
And I take it this may have something to do with Queen Maud's British background?

Not really, as the first version of the Norwegian song was written in 1841.

On a different note:
After watching these videos I realized that Haakon is very well trained. I was extremely impressed at how deeply and reverendly he bows his head and sometimes at the waist, when he greets, and shakes hands with, people.
My intuition tells me that, one day, he will do extremely well as a monarch.
Evidently, thanks to Olav the Good King, the Norwegian Royal House has by now built a deeply rooted, strong democratic tradition.
