I agree. We should not be too surprised by it... We know what a hard life she has been leading.

Empress Michiko still looks great. She is al elderly lady, but she has a majestic look. Maybe it is for she remains active and interested in everyday life. Go on, Empress Michiko!

This was an interesting set of pictures. The two ladies seem to be having a wonderful time! The pleating on the Empress's dress is so elegant, too. Do members of the Imperial Family go to premieres very often? I don't associate them with this kind of event, but perhaps I just haven't seen pics before.

I'm looking for a beautiful photo of Empress Michiko of Japan Queen Sonja and Crown Princess Mette-Maritt of Norway when the Imperial Majesties were visiting Norway about 3 or 4 year ago When leaving a children's institution the three noble ladies were taken by surprise by wind and rain. Anyone knows the photo I am talking about? Thanks Lababoc

I know the picture you're talking about, taken during the last visit of Their Imperial Majesties to Europe, in 2006 or 2007 (can't remember fur sure the year).
You may find it in GettyImages, which is where I found it the last time I saw it.

Empress Michiko was a stunning beauty in her youth. Princess Masako is my favorite but she nor other princesses of the Imperial Family come close to matching Empress Michiko's beauty of her youth. In her prime she was more beautiful than any of the actresses in Japan, IMO.
I would have wished her only daughter to inherit her beauty but she doesn't even remotely resemble her mother, the Empress. Princess Sayako was cute and adorable as a young child though.
Thank you for the wonderful pictures, they were a great treat~

I think that Princess Sayako is a beauty in her own way. Of course, Empress MIchiko was stunning when a young lady.

Empress Michiko is such a tiny, dainty woman! I love her little hats.

I've enjoyed looking at these old pictures of Empress Michiko. She was a great beauty in her day. And she still has a natural elegance about her.

Yes she's Michiko's mother Mrs Fumi Shoda. Already passed away though.
And it's my favorite picture of our honorable mother

wearing black and white pearls from comme des garcons, Japan.
Not just classy and glaceful, how witted and charming dresser she is!
