I can't wait to see pictures of Their Majesties in Latvia. I think the Latvian President handles these kind of events so well.

The Imperial Couple is presently in Stockholm on the first stop of their European tour. Please post all relevant information here. See you back in this thread after the Official Visit to Stockholm is over.
Enjoy!

Empress Michiko is the grand dame of protocol. She's wearing the Estonian national colours of white, blue and black! Her Majesty is a true asset to Japan. Though Lithuania's outfit might be an interesting one.

Just curious....Is the Empress wearing a coat? A cape? A cape/coat? Or is it a one piece dress? I can't figure it out. She wears this style frequently. Is it supposed to be more like the sleeves or styling of a Kimono?
I have so many questions!!

She wore a blue kimono with a gold obi in Sweden; almost always in Japan she wears pink or beige - blue is very unusual. But blue and gold in Sweden

It seems like a kimono to me.. probably changed a bit to suit her engagements.
I can't believe the warm welcome the Emperor and Empress got.... truly heartwarming!

Emperor, empress arrive in Latvia, set to visit Freedom Monument
They will meet with Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga -- the first woman president in the former communist bloc -- at Riga Castle and later visit the Monument of Freedom, Latvia's national symbol of freedom and independence, in central Riga to lay flowers there.
...
The imperial couple is then to attend a luncheon hosted by the president and her husband, Imants Freibergs, at the Blackheads House before visiting the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, which displays artifacts from the occupation by Nazi Germany during World War II and the subsequent occupation by the Soviet Union.

Vaira Vike-Frieberga does it again. She looks wonderful and so regal. Tell me she couldn't be mistaken for a Queen and I shall call you a churl. Her suit is perfect in colour, very understated to let her guests shine, and the hat gives a contrast in shade. Hair and make-up are spot on. Her purse is wonderful and as for the red jewellery - divine! I love this woman.
Empress Michiko looks lovely too and yes, she is wearing Latvia's national colours! I may well trek up to Piccadilly on the 28th to see what she's wearing for myself when she visits Britain. As for the Empress in Latvia - wonderful.

The Empress looks so good! I'm relieved, since her health was no good not so long ago...
I hope this visit to Scandinavian States could made more strong the ties between Japanese and Scandinavian people.
