Queen Margrethe has agreed to become Patron of a Danish-French research collaboration between the Marmottan Monet Museum in Paris and Skagen's Art Museums, it was announced today.

The project between the two museums aims - among other things - at making Danish painter P.S. Krøyer more known for a wider public.

That's a nice painting from what I can see. It is a good initiative.

The painter Krøyer and his contemporaries who lived and worked in Skagen around 1890 or so constituted a golden age in Danish art - and indeed many paintings are certainly worth a closer study.

That's one seriously tall guardsman! Especially considering QMII isn't small herself.

It's the first time the watch-ceremony takes place at Marselisborg.
Normally the parade takes place at the guards battalion's barracks near Rosenborg Castle. But due to Corona the parade has been scaled down.

Also, QMII presented a watch to a former guardsman. That presentation had to be cancelled three months ago, due to the lockdown.

QMII has, as you now know, started her summer holiday at Marselisborg.

Normally she arrives to Aarhus aboard Dannebrog, but the ship has apparently been decommissioned for this year. (*) So QMII opted to arrive by ordinary train. No royal saloon car.
But it seems she wanted to be as discreet as possible, so instead of getting off at the central station, the train stopped at the old, and now disused freight terminal. There is no platform there, so it's down stairs, but despite being 80 and having had problems with her legs, she managed that in fine form. Walked discreetly through a fence to a waiting Bentley and drove off to Marselisborg. (Using the nearby inner ring-road she must have been there within ten minutes, despite traffic.)

(*) Poor conscripts! Having waited for two-three years to serve aboard Dannebrog, only for Corona to ruin it all.

QMII (as well as M&F, Mary perhaps in particular) has had very good news today - and bad news.

Her old friend, the composer Bent Fabricius Bjerre, has died, age 95.
He died after a short period of illness.

He was one of the friends who took turn hosting the New Year party QMII attends every year.

Mary was also fond of him and showed the openly.

As for Denmark and the Danes, a truly iconic composer, who made countless hits throughout his very long career, is no more.

Wasn't he the composer of the song Mary sang to Frederik at his 40th birthday party? Can't remember if he was responsible for the lyrics or if that was Mary.

He was no doubt the composer and perhaps he helped her with the lyrics.

And I think we should listen to a couple of his many, many music pieces.

He composed music since the 50's until quite recently, when he fell ill with leukemia.

Actually it will be in three segments.
And here she will discuss are and culture.

The first segment will a conversation with the pianist Nikolaj Koppel.
The two of them will discuss classical music based on the piece The Nutcracker.

The second segment will be about ballet. She will discuss ballet with the head of ballet, Peter Bo Bedixen, based on the ballet Romeo and Juliet.

The third segment is about paintings. Here with art historian Bente Scavenius.

- For those interested in art and culture this must be considered a must-see!
Normally we can expect something intelligent to come out when QMII opens her mouth. And when it's about something she is interested in and really know something about, we can expect something both interesting and intelligent.
Add to that that she is conversing with people who really know their stuff and we have a hit!

Hmm, I don't think so actually.
I don't think it will be for nerds. That wouldn't be QMII's style and she has a lot of experience (and desire) in making even obscure subjects interesting to the broad public.
It is my experience that it is usually interesting to listen to people being allowed to talk about something they really know about.

It will, I think, in a sense be QMII who will be the interviewer and who will run how the conversations is being conducted, rather than the other way around, as is usual.
They base their conversation about a specific topic and move from there. I imagine say the ballet Romeo and Juliet is something QMII herself would like to ask into and then see where it leads and with a little luck it will turn into a ping-pong game of exchanging views and observations.
After all, these are people QMII would normally have a fluent conversation with and probably has had on a number of occasions.

We shall see.

For the first time, Her Majesty the Queen participates in a podcast when the Queen talks about her fascination with the world of art in the podcast series "The Queen and the Art". The first episode of the series is available today.⁣

Since childhood, art has played a significant role in the Queen's life - not only in private, but also in more official contexts. Over three podcast episodes, the Queen speaks with three cultural profiles about the world of music, ballet and visual arts. During the conversations, they explore the details of concrete works, dive into the Queen's own artistic work and talk about the relevance of art in our time
In the first episode, Her Majesty talks about classical music with pianist Nikolaj Koppel. Among other things, they talk about Tchaikovsky's music for the Christmas ballet "The Nutcracker", for which the Queen has drawn scenography and costumes. In the second episode, the Queen and ballet director Peter Bo Bendixen have a conversation about the Queen's passion for ballet, including for the Shakespeare ballet "Romeo and Juliet". Queen Margrethe was presented with the National Museum's special edition of the yearbook "National Museum's Working Field" at Christian IX’s Palæ, Amalienborg today, November 17:

After a period of service in the Life Guards, the guard company nominates the best guards of the period. At the parade, the Queen presents a watch to the guard, who is honored for being a good comrade and a skilled soldier.

Should Mary sometime in the future have to step in for Frederik and present such a watch, I think it will have become mandatory by then for Mary also to dress like a Teletubby. - Now, there's a sight to remember! ?
