Carlota that was not the king but his brother moulay Rachid the king is in High Atlas visiting some very far area.
Marrakech festival sur did so good for tourism industry in the city, but I don't think the Moroccan economy depend on this festival to survive, the festival help the most the entertainment industry in Morocco(Movies especially)

Marrakech Film Festival 2009: report
.... In addition to this Prince Moulay Rachid, the Festival’s seemingly rather active president, provided free cataract operations for 250 patients at the local university hospital; since film is at least partly about the art of seeing, this initiative – which also included an exhibition of photographs taken by the blind or partially sighted – seemed especially valuable... I bet this is one of Moulay Rachid's favourite events, all those pretty actresses!
Great to see John Malkovich and Eva Mendes there.
I miss seeing the princesses at the film festival too. I wonder why they've all stopped attending, they brought the real glamour to this event in my opinion.

no doubt its Moulay Rachid favorite Patronage
impressing attendance this year: Keanu Reeves,Marion Cotillard,Sophie Marceau,Christophe Lambert,James Caan and many other actors and actreeses it's so nice to see them all here in Morocco.
i agree that the princeses make the festival more glamorous i don't know why they don't attend anymore.
