I agree...there are some nice pictures of the Queen putting her hand on Mabel's back.
Hope the two can comfort each other

I am so happy that she could smile! She is so strong and I hope that she will have next year more reasons to smile.

I believe that this year would have been prince Friso's turn to hand out the prizes and give the speech. But good to see Mabel there.

Very touching!Prince Constantijn said that the empty space on the stage behind the microphone symbolized something different to him,it symbolized the space his brother should have taken up,he should have been there. At that point Princesses Mabel and Laurentien battled with tears.
HM putting her arm on Mabels back,as did Princess Máxima and taking her by the arm as they left the Citizens Hall. The support among the family members is soo strong,it is exemplary.

According to the website of the Royal House, the Queen will not be attending because she is on a trip to Ethiopia and Tanzania for her inclusive finance work.
Attending the Prince Claus Award will be the King, Princess Beatrix, Princess Mabel, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien.

The King will now also not attend the Prince Claus Award becaus he will pay his respects to Nelson Mandela tomorrow.
Now only Princess Beatrix, Princess Mabel (I do not believe she is in South Africa), Prince Constantijn and Princess Mabel will attend the ceremony.
