The State Opening of the Spanish Cortes opens takes place after every General election I believe (every 4 years or there abouts).

The King and Royal Family arrive with a mounted escorted ,no carriages sadly used.

Well, at least King Harald reads the speech from what I would call a real pompous royal throne out of the fairy books.

The swedish opening is, apart from the carriage ride (only a handful of spectators watching...the royal party driving through Stockholm almost virtually unnoticed...), quite a bore, while at the danish one you could ask yourself, why the royal family attends at all, having no function, except looking!...

The liveblog of the NPO has a clip about the golden carriage. The German goldsmith explains that gold is cleaned with a mix of water and ... beer. A lady in charge of the restauration of the textile says that it is inevitable that the carriage will be retired to a museum on the long run, as textile is a fleeting material that gets damaged every time the carriage is used.

You mean, never in the Netherlands?! In Norway the monarch does enter parliament in uniform and in Spain, too. In Britain the royal princes always enter parliament in uniform, and I am convinced when Charles would be King one day he will still be opening parliament in uniform like all his male ancestors did for the last 117 years!

It has to do with the "colonial" painting on one of the side panels, in which people from the East and the West Netherlands Indies bring homage to a female allegoric figure, embodying the Motherland. According a small but vocal anti-racism group this is a depiction of slavery and therefore they protest against the use of this Golden State Coach. I do not rule out that the carriage will become a museal piece because of this.

That was commented on television indeed and seemed to be the personal opinion of the restorator. But she added "on the long run". The Dutch carriage is used much more frequently than the British one. The latter has been used 3 (?) times in the last 66 years perhaps?

The other issue is indeed the side panels, which has been a matter of debate for some years now. Indeed of a small but vocal group. The restoration silenced the debate for now, but the discussion will likely flare up once the restoration has finished.

Maybe I missed it but what coach did Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien travel in?

Thankfully the Dutch still use pomp and majesty for these ceremonies if it was Belgium they'd all arrive in a people carrier!

There were four gala carriages, several mounted detachements of the cavalry, of the Royal Marechaussee, of the National Police, there were music bands and detachements on foot from various regiments and from the Marine Corps, the Navy and the Air Force. With other words: a completely normal Prinsjesdag.

Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien travelled in a Gala Berline, which was ordered by The Prince of Orange in 1836. The manufacturer was the firm Pearce & Co in London. This is one of the several Gala Berlines in the Royal Mews. Their specific one was changed into an all-glass around berline for the wedding of Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven (1967). Since then it is named: Gala Glass Berline.

The golden coach is used every year whereas the British golden coach has only seen the light of day four times in 118 years as it is only used for coronations.

"Every third Tuesday of September it is Prinsjesdag, the festive opening of the new working year of the States General (the First and Second Chamber).

King Willem-Alexander leaves at 1 p.m. from Noordeinde Palace to the Ridderzaal, accompanied by Queen Máxima, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien. Around 2 p.m. the King departs again along the same route with the Glass Carriage to Noordeinde Palace, after which he and the Royal Company appear on the balcony of Noordeinde Palace."

Always a highlight for avid Royal Watchers.

Princess Laurentien wears a powder pink dress of Hardies, The Hague, with the pink stones that Q. Maxima usually wears.

The Queen in a Burgundy dress of Taminiau with long hair and a weird piece of cloth on top. Perhaps to make the ball gown more suitable for the day. She wears a new combination of the Ruby devant corsage & brooch.

The King kept his beard. According to the NOS the Royal Mint and the Postal services will not change the design of coins or stamps and will wait to see if it will last.

IMHO the diction of the King has improved quite a bit in comparison with his first speeches from the throne.
