That is what I said in Amalia's fashion topic, I see a mini-Queen Wilhelmina in her.
This almost looks like a reincarnation.

Is it customary for the heir to ride horseback on Princes Day? We are Amalia practicing in The Hague. https://t.co/wWQnNq2QWT

Did the Prince of Orange also do this prior to becoming king?

By my knowledge: no.

Princess Amalia will be seated in the State Gala Berline 1 but I think she wanted to see how the Royal Mews prepare and train for events. The former Palais Nassau-Weilburg is a new venue for the Address from the Throne (the whole Inner Court complex including the Hall of Knights is in major restoration).

The Royal Mews uses this training to clock the distance between the venues including going in and out the carriages, where to "park" during the Address and how to make a turn with all the carriages for the ride back to the palace.

By experiencing all first-hand, the future boss of the Royal Household and the Royal Mews learns how things work. Excellent practice for the Princess. She seems genuinely interested. A bit like Elizabeth II who really knows the Royal Mews as no other and a bit like Margrethe II who is very interested in every detail of the Royal Household.

In books it is said that in the 1970's Princess Beatrix made a study of other Courts and largely modelled "her" Court Organization to the Danish example. She has been in Copenhagen and was given a detailed explanation of all services in the Danish organogram.

No, it isn't. She will be in the carriage with her parents.

Most likely the Princess wants to see, hear, feel and experience how the Royal Mews are organized, how it works, how they prepare. One day she will be in charge of between 300 and 400 persons directly working for her Household, amongst these the Royal Mews.

This year is interesting because the venue for the Address from the Throne is changed to the former Palais Nassau-Weilburg. This need an adaptation of the route. What is the timing? Do the massed bands, the military escorts on foot and on horseback, the carriages encounter problematic situations, blockades? Are there tramlines in the road, where is a possibility for the horsedrawn carriages to make a turn? Are there exits alongside the route in case of an incident or emergency?

For the future Queen this will be extremely interesting to learn, to look with the eyes from her Crown Equerry, what he faces and how he solves it. Usually there are 64 horses from the Honorary Cavalry Escort, 64 horses from the Corps National Police, 34 horses from the Royal Marechaussee, 12 horses from the The Hague Police, some 20 horses pulling carriages and a dozen of horses carrying equerries, aides-de-camp, the Governor of the Residence and other court functionaries.

All these horses need transportation, accomodation, food, need to be groomed, saddled. But also all the troops need accomodation, changing venues to dress in ceremonial tenue. It will be a mightily interesting logistic operation for the Princess.

The preparations for Prinsjesdag are in full swing. In the Koninklijke Schouwburg the finishing touches are being put to the red carpet at the entrance and the flowers are being arranged.

On the beach of Scheveningen, the Cavalry Honorary Escort of Defense, the National Police and the Royal Stable Department are practicing.

I am not sure about the new venue. It looks very 'empty' as if the whole thing is done in a television studio.

Many members of parliament look beyond bored though -Annabel Nanninga seems to be sleeping- though the ministers do their best to appear interested. The female D66 members of the cabinet prefer not to wear a hat and are in trousers.

Why was the venue changed?

The Inner Court is closed for renovations, which will last until who knows when. The church venue was discontinued due to security - and logistics concerns as it is located in the heart of the shopping area of The Hague, with many narrow streets.

---
Ohlala: "We beseffen ons..." . let's hope it was a slip of the tongue by the King and that the the speech writers didn't atually put this in the text. One would think the text has been checked and checked again on grammatical errors.

The correct pronoun would be "We beseffen..." or "We realiseren ons...". "Beseffen ons" is incorrect Dutch.

Why doesn't the King wear his order miniatures and star like he did with his morning suit at QEII's funeral yesterday? It'd help even out the look between male and female royal members.

"It seems that Pss Beatrix did not pick the most fortunate location to watch the day" - understatement used by the commentator of the television channel.

She tried to watch it all from the windows of the former Kneuterdijk palace. But that became exactly the spot where a group of extremist farmers was protesting in a shameful manner, with upside-down flags, whistles, boo's and cries of 'traitor'.

https://dvhn.nl/binnenland/Prinses-B...-27937347.html

A group of extremist Dutch farmers have been terrorising the country for months now: blocking highways, ruining natural areas and threatening to kill politicians and their children. They are in general joined by supporters of the anti-semite party 'Forum for Democracy', COVID-deniers, neo-Nazis and other lunatics.

On this day they merely boo-ed the King, Queen and Princess of Orange, so that is progress compared to their usual comportement.

Neither the police nor the government are lifting a finger to hamper these criminals in their behavior. It is a mystery why, as other -more left leaning- protestors are beaten up and thrown in prison/ fined rather dilligently. The prime minister is of course nowhere to be seen in this discussion, which has become his habbit and survival mechanism.

What abominable disrespect for the institution and this day. TBH it would be best if they would abolish all the hats, as in the Netherlands -in general- women do not know how to wear it. They were very wise to have altered the dress code for the inauguration of the King.

Because of an overwhelming agenda at work I have seen almost nothing from the events in London or The Hague except some feeds here or there.

I found it sad that the dear old Queen, seated in a window of Kneuterdijk Palace, was faced with protesters (farmers) holding flags upside down and jeering the royal cortège:

picture (the name Rutte on the banner refers to the current Prime Minster, already since 2010)

It made me so sad. The King has zero comma zero to do with the stringent agriculture policy of this Cabinet (enforcing farmers to drastically lower down nitrogen footprint - the Netherlands are one of the biggest exporters of agriculture in the world and this has an enormous footprint in the comparably small country).

That this ceremonial day has more and more become a focus for protesters is not new but what has become of the Netherlands? And then farmers and fishermen: always affiching themselves as loyal, Christian, cooperative. But as no one before them de-sacralizing the national flag.

May I puke?

Eeerrrmmmm.... In 1980 she became Queen on the day Amsterdam saw the worst riots ever, in 2010 she had an object thrown to the Golden State Coach during the ceremonial procession on Prinsjesdag, earlier that year a madman caused mass panic and a stampede during the National Remembrance on May 4th, in 2009 there was an attack on her life on Queen's Day in which 7 people died and many wounded (an idiot tried to ram a panoramic autobus with the royal family, live on television).

The Government presents new plans. The King is head of Government. So the ceremonial events at Prinsjesdag are an excellent opportunity to show discontent with the Government.

And the discontent is very deep as the enormous agriculture industry in the Netherlands apparently feels substantially threatened by "woke green-left climate cuddlers" and a deep gap between "les Pays-Bas profonde" (the traditional rural Netherlands) and the majority living in densely populated urban areas becomes visible. The Randstad alone, a cluster of cities in the provinces Holland and Utrecht has 8,33 million inhabitants.
