Informations for this year by the Palace:
"As was the case last year, the activities for the celebration of Prinsjesdag 2021 have been adjusted as a result of the measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The United Assembly will again take place this year in the Grote Kerk in The Hague. The military ceremonial at the Grote Kerk is very limited. The balcony scene at Noordeinde Palace is cancelled.
The usual driving tour of King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien will not take place this year either. The Royal Company arrives by car at the Grote Kerk at 1.20 pm. "

The King greatly improved his intonation and rythm so the speech was much easier to listen to than in previous years, when it was more 'wooden'.
I hope that next year they can use the carriages again. As 70.000 people could gather in Zandvoort for the Grand Prix I wonder why the opening of parlament had to be dressed down.
The renovation of the Inner Court is supposed to last until 2026 so we still have quite five years to go in this setting. Let's hope that next year the princess of Orange will also participate in the ceremony.

Prinsjesdag 2022 at a new old venue
It was announced today that the next Prinsjesdag, the 3rd tuesday of September when HM reads the Speech from the Throne, will be at the Royal Theatre,The Hague instead of the New Church.
The Royal Theatre, once build as a Palace,is an excellent venue, very stylish too and an excellent venue for the premiere of the Princess of Orange who will attend this Prinsjesdag for the first time as she has reached her 18 years of age last december.
Accompanied next year by her sister Alexia....I hope...

The entire Inner court is undergoing a renovation except the Hall of Knights/Ridderzaal. The complex has been closed of and it will last until the end of 2026. But these complex renovations face many delays, so a Prinsjesdag 2027 in the Ridderzaal may be an over-optimistic estimate. Parlament has moved to the -ghastly- former ministery of Foreign affairs.
The former Nassau-Weilburg palace -now theatre- is perhaps a practical solution but I am not sure it would be wise to have such a day - theatre of state- take place in an actual theatre. The acid comments will write themselves.
A pity there is no other historic hall in the whole city to be found. I imagine the hall of Kneuterdijk palace is too small. But then we have no grand noble families and the stadholders always had rather modest palaces.
The former Weilburg palace of Pss Carolina of Orange-Nassau and her husband Karl Christian of Nassau-Weilburg was supposed to be 4 times larger than it is now.

The church was chosen due to Covid: the hall was large enough to have the required distance between the members of both houses of parlament. They now chose this one because it is more 'festive' and because it will be possible to receive the usual 800 guests, without having to put them between the parlementarians. In addition, the city warned that it was difficult for the security services to get to the church quickly in case of an emergency due to the narrow streets.

No because the venue has to be isolated for a couple of days (a no-go area, a proteced circle around the location). The Great- or Saint James' Church is in the very middle of The Hague and the municipality finds it too obstructive for residents, shops, companies and offices around the location. The municipality also finds there is insufficient accessibility for police, fire brigade and ambulances in case of an emergency.
Now the former city palais Nassau-Weilburg (the Theatre Royal) will be used. Most likely the stage will be removed for Prinsjesdag (it seems the stage floor can be equalized with the floor of the hall) to avoid the idea that there is a stageplay instead of an assembly of the States-General.

The route from Noordeinde Palace to the former city-palais Nassau-Weilburg is probably only one kilometre, so it will be a very short distance for the military, the carriages and the mounted escorts (unless they add extra streets to the route).
The Court has announced that Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands, The Princess of Orange, will attend the joint assembly of the two Chambers of the States-General (on the third Tuesday of September: Prinsjesdag).
This fits in a tradition, see the first Prinsjesdag of the previous Prince of Orange: picture.

I wonder why they felt the need to announce because it would have been a surprise had she not attended after she reached the age of majority. Next year, I expect Alexia to join her and her parents and uncle and aunt as well. Ariane will have to wait until 2025.

Memory of media is quite short term, I suppose. The last time that a Prince of Orange did attend Prinsjesdag is already 10 years ago...
